Food Inflation, Food Shortages And Food Riots Are Coming

A devastating global food crisis unlike anything we have ever seen in modern times is coming.  Crippling drought and bizarre weather patterns have damaged food production all over the world this summer, and the UN and the World Bank have both issued ominous warnings about the food inflation that is coming.  To those of us in the western world, a rise in the price of food can be a major inconvenience, but in the developing world it can mean the difference between life and death.  Just remember what happened back in 2008.  When food prices hit record highs it led to food riots in 28 different countries.  Today, there are approximately 2 billion people that are malnourished around the globe.  Even rumors of food shortages are enough to spark mass chaos in many areas of the planet.  When people fear that they are not going to be able to feed their families they tend to get very desperate.  That is why a recent CNN article declared that “2013 will be a year of serious global crisis“.  The truth is that we are not just facing rumors of a global food crisis – one is actually starting to unfold right in front of our eyes.  The United States experienced the worst drought in more than 50 years this summer, and some experts are already declaring that the weather has been so dry for so long that tremendous damage has already been done to next year’s crops.  On the other side of the world, Russia, Ukraine and Kazakhstan have all seen their wheat crops devastated by the horrible drought this summer.  Australia has also been dealing with drought, and in India monsoon rains were about 15 percent behind pace in mid-August.  Global food production is going to be much less than expected this year, and global food demand continues to steadily rise.  What that means is that food inflation, food shortages and food riots are coming, and it isn’t going to be pretty.

The United States exports more food than anyone else in the world, and that is why the entire globe has been nervously watching the horrific drought in the United States this summer with deep concern.

It has been the worst drought in more than 50 years, and it has absolutely devastated corn crops all over the nation.  According to Bill Witherell, the U.S. corn crop this year “is said to be on a par with that of 1988 crop, the worst in the past thirty years.”

Sadly, this will be the third year in a row that the yield for corn has declined in the United States.

That has never happened before in the history of the United States.

And coming into this year we were already in bad shape.  In fact, U.S. corn reserves were sitting at a 15 year low at the end of 2011.

So where will we be at the end of 2012?

The official estimates for corn yields put out by the U.S. government just keep dropping, but many fear that they aren’t dropping quickly enough.  There have been some reports on the ground from some areas of the country that have been very distressing.  The following is from a recent Wall Street Journal article….

Meanwhile, scouts with the Pro Farmer Midwest Crop Tour on Monday reported an average estimated corn yield in Ohio of 110.5 bushels per acre, down from the tour’s estimate of 156.3 bushels a year ago. In South Dakota, tour scouts reported an average yield estimate of just 74.3 bushels per acre, down from 141.1 bushels a year ago.

Those are catastrophic numbers.

But farmers are not the only ones that have been impacted by the dry weather.  A recent article by Chris Martenson summarized some of the other effects of this drought…..

Even though the mainstream media seems to have lost some interest in the drought, we should keep it front and center in our minds, as it has already led to sharply higher grain prices, increased gasoline costs (via the pass-through of higher ethanol costs), impeded oil and gas drilling activity in some areas (due to a lack of water), caused the shutdown of a few operating electricity plants, temporarily reduced red meat prices (but will also make them climb sharply later) as cattle are dumped in response to feed- and pasture-management concerns, and blocked and/or reduced shipping on the Mississippi River.  All this and there’s also a strong chance that today’s drought will negatively impact next year’s Winter wheat harvest, unless a lot of rain starts falling soon.

Ranchers have had a particularly hard time during this drought.  If you expect to pay about the same for meat this time next year as you are doing now you are going to be deeply disappointed.  The following is from a recent Reuters article….

The worst drought to hit U.S. cropland in more than half a century could soon leave Americans reaching deeper into their pockets to fund a luxury that people in few other countries enjoy: affordable meat.

Drought-decimated fields have pushed grain prices sky high, and the rising feed costs have prompted some livestock producers to liquidate their herds. This is expected to shrink the long-term U.S. supply of meat and force up prices at the meat counter.

All over the western United States pastures have been destroyed and there is not enough hay.  It would be hard to overstate the damage that this nightmarish drought is doing to our ranchers….

I spoke with Caldwell [of Indiana horse rescue] and a number of other horse-rescue organizations around the country by telephone this week. The relentlessly hot dry weather, amplified in many areas by wildfire, has been devastating to farmers, ranchers and other horse owners.

“Everybody is using their winter hay now. The pastures are destroyed and they probably won’t recover before winter,” said Caldwell. “The price of hay has doubled, and the availability is down by 75 percent.”

Caldwell is somewhat sanguine about his own lot, but not optimistic about what lies ahead.

“Today the problem is not nearly as bad as it’s going to be,” he told me. “It’s terribly bad today, but it is going to get a lot worse.”

But of course as I mentioned earlier this is not just an American problem.

The truth is that the entire globe is facing a rapidly growing food crisis.

According to the UN, the global price of food rose 6 percent in the month of July alone.

According to the World Bank, global food prices actually rose 10 percent during July.

Either figure is really, really bad.

The other day, the UN Food and Agriculture Organization,  the International Fund for Agricultural  Development and the World Food Program issued a joint statement in which they stated the following….

“We need to act urgently to make sure that these price shocks do not turn into a catastrophe hurting tens of millions over the coming months”

If the price of food at our supermarkets suddenly went up 20 percent that would really stretch our family budgets here in the United States, but we would survive.

On the other side of the globe, such a price change can mean the difference between life and death.  The following is from the CNN article mentioned above….

But step outside the developed world, and the price of food suddenly becomes the single most important fact of human economic life. In poor countries, people typically spend half their incomes on food — and by “food,” they mean first and foremost bread.

When grain prices spiked in 2007-2008, bread riots shook 30 countries across the developing world, from Haiti to Bangladesh, according to the Financial Times.   A drought in Russia in 2010 forced suspension of Russian grain exports that year and set in motion the so-called Arab spring.

Already, 18 million people in Niger, Mali, Chad, Mauritania and Senegal are dealing with very serious food shortages.

In Yemen, things are even worse….

Yemen has a catastrophic food crisis. Nearly half the population, 10 million people, does not have enough to eat. While 300,000 children are facing life threatening levels of malnutrition.

The United Nations says Yemen is already in the throes of a disaster.

“The levels are truly terrible. Whatever we do thousands upon thousands of children will die this year from malnutrition,” Unicef’s man in Yemen, Geert Cappelaere, said.

“In some areas child malnutrition is at 30%, to put it in context, an emergency is 15%. It is double that already.”

But this is just the beginning.  These food shortages are going to spread and we will eventually see food riots that will absolutely dwarf the food riots of 2008.

Many scientists fear the worst.  Some are even now warning that food shortages will become so severe that they will eventually force much of the globe on to a vegetarian diet….

Leading water scientists have issued one of the sternest warnings yet about global food supplies, saying that the world’s population may have to switch almost completely to a vegetarian diet over the next 40 years to avoid catastrophic shortages.

Humans derive about 20% of their protein from animal-based products now, but this may need to drop to just 5% to feed the extra 2 billion people expected to be alive by 2050, according to research by some of the world’s leading water scientists.

“There will not be enough water available on current croplands to produce food for the expected 9 billion population in 2050 if we follow current trends and changes towards diets common in western nations,” the report by Malik Falkenmark and colleagues at the Stockholm International Water Institute (SIWI) said.

The days of very cheap meat are coming to an end.  Meat will be increasingly viewed as a “luxury” around the globe from now on.

Sadly, there are some in the financial world that actually intend to make lots of money off of this crisis….

The United Nations, aid agencies and the British Government have lined up to attack the world’s largest commodities trading company, Glencore, after it described the current global food crisis and soaring world prices as a “good” business opportunity.

With the US experiencing a rerun of the drought “Dust Bowl” days of the 1930s and Russia suffering a similar food crisis that could see Vladimir Putin’s government banning grain exports, the senior economist of the UN’s Food and Agriculture Organisation, Concepcion Calpe, told The Independent: “Private companies like Glencore are playing a game that will make them enormous profits.”

Does that disturb you?

It should.

Driving up the price of food for starving people is not a good way to make money.

Food is one of our most basic needs.

When people are deprived of food they become very desperate.

Just look at what is already happening in Spain.  The economic crisis in that country has just begun, and people are already looting supermarkets.  You can see a video news report about Spanish activists looting 3 tons of food from local supermarkets right here.

Much of that food was donated to food banks, but in the future I am sure that the desperate “activists” will not be so generous when things get really tight.

In other areas of Spain, large numbers of people have been filmed digging through trash dumpsters for food.

Could you ever see yourself doing that?

Don’t be so sure that hunger will never come to America.

Right now, a record 46.7 million Americans are on food stamps, and anti-hunger organizations all around the country are reporting more of a need than ever before.

For now the federal government is able to feed the tens of millions of Americans that do not have enough money for food, but what happens when a day comes when the federal government stops doing that?

And what happens if the drought in the United States continues throughout the winter and into next summer and Dust Bowl conditions return to the United States?

In a previous article entitled “17 Signs That You Better Start Preparing For A Nightmarish Global Food Crisis“, I detailed some more of the reasons why people need to start preparing for food inflation and food shortages.

In the past we could always go out to the supermarket or to Wal-Mart and fill up our shopping carts with huge piles of very cheap food whenever we wanted to.

It will not always be that way.

Get prepared while you still can.

Meanwhile, many Americans continue to enjoy life as if nothing will ever change.  For example, the “Rich Kids of Instagram” have been very busy showing off their wealth all summer long.  You can see some of the ridiculous ways that they are blowing their wealth right here.

Sadly, they are just a product of our degenerating society.  We have piled up wealth in these troubled times while the rest of the world has suffered.

But even our great wealth was not enough for us so we went out and borrowed trillions upon trillions of dollars.  We have accumulated the greatest mountain of debt in the history of the world, but we are still not satisfied.

In the end, we will weep and howl in misery as everything that we have built falls apart around us.

The Mayans new something, it’s no coincidence. Dec 21st symbolizes the beginning of the end – it’s not the end. The door entrance to hell opens on that date. What comes next, once we step through that door, isn’t gonna be pretty.

    • Yeah, they talk about their God coming back at that point, I’ve been wondering if at the end of the year we’re going to see a man rise to power along with a spiritual adviser who has a brilliant plan to reset the system and redistribute the wealth amongst the nations… all it costs is one…little…mark. -(You never know)

    • k

Did the world begin on the day the mayan calender began?? No.

Similarly….Will the world end on or begin to end on 21st?No.

      • k

The beginning of the end has already begun…if you look at all the doom and gloom news.

  • K

Those who would profit from this, will be judged accordingly. As will this Country, for using rich cropland to grow corn, we use as fuel. It is the sin of waste.

  • marK

Raising beef will change to grass fed meat. The grain crops will have to go to feeding people. We have lots of land that will not support anything other than grass. We need livestock to convert that grass into food we can eat. Also some areas do not have enough water to raise crops, but there is enough water to raise some livestock. Well marbeled steaks laced with fat from feeding corn will not be as common in the stores. One good thing to come from less corn to feed beef will be better health and fewer heart attacks. But those fat steaks sure taste good hot off of the grill.

  • Thank you Michael for all your work, they mock me for using common cause and effect sense and then do their best to lull me back to sleep with all their banal speech, you smack me and wake me back up, what was I doing? Oh that’s right, need to acquire a pressure cooker while I still can 🙂

We thank God that all this are happening as a sign some thing better to come. It is not a good that some many are already are dying there in the world. So many had died in Somalia. But this are signs of the End-Times. The Bible talk about Food Shortages(famine), Crisis(rumours of wars) etc. That this is just the beginning of sorrow. But it shall be well with the righteous. Though you may say I sound spiritual, but the truth will prevail someday because days such things happen like famine over the world. In Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Elijah, Elisha’s time. We could see this things visible again in our time. Well something great is about to happen. Christians prepare to be the saviour of the world.

We are preparing for the Savior of this world – not for Christians to be the savior.

COOL WEBSITE!!! An End Time Empire Of Iron And Clay!

“And whereas thou sawest the feet and toes, part of potters’ clay, and part of iron, the kingdom shall be divided; but there shall be in it of the strength of the iron, forasmuch as thou sawest the iron mixed with miry clay. And as the toes of the feet were part of iron, and part of clay, so the kingdom shall be partly strong, and partly broken. And whereas thou sawest iron mixed with miry clay, they shall mingle themselves with the seed of men: but they shall not cleave one to another, even as iron is not mixed with clay. And in the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed: and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand for ever.”

    Daniel 2:41-44
“And this shall be the plague wherewith the Lord will smite all the people that have fought against Jerusalem; Their flesh shall consume away while they stand upon their feet, and their eyes shall consume away in their holes, and their tongue shall consume away in their mouth. And it shall come to pass in that day, that a great tumult from the Lord shall be among them; and they shall lay hold every one on the hand of his neighbour, and his hand shall rise up against the hand of his neighbour.”

    Zechariah 14:12-13
“Wherefore, when I came, was there no man? When I called, was there none to answer? Is my hand shortened at all, that it cannot redeem? or have I no power to deliver? behold, at my rebuke I dry up the sea, I make the rivers a wilderness: their fish stinketh, because there is no water, and dieth for thirst.”

    Isaiah 50:2
In this issue of the Last Trumpet Newsletter, we will once again examine the current events of our day and the indicators that we are drawing ever closer to the glorious return of our King and Saviour, Jesus Christ. As we carefully study the Holy Scriptures and review the news headlines from around the world, it becomes apparent that prophecy is now being fulfilled on a continual basis. We are now seeing the stirrings of a one-world beast system rising up while Satan works at a feverish pace to inflict his will upon the captive inhabitants throughout much of the world.

The empire that Satan is now attempting to establish appears very powerful and tends to frighten many people. In fact, we read in Revelation 13:4, “And they worshipped the dragon which gave power unto the beast: and they worshipped the beast, saying, who is like unto the beast? Who is able to make war with him?” Thankfully we also know from the Scriptures that Satan’s attempt to establish a one-world government, a one-world religion, and a one-world monetary system will ultimately end in failure. In Daniel, chapter 2, we read of a large statue, which represents the powerful empires which have been established throughout history. Represented in the statue were the empires of Babylon, Medo-persia, Greece, Rome, and a final empire, which Satan is now trying to set up. Although this empire may seem outwardly powerful, it is represented by iron mixed with clay and therefore will be unable to stand. Conversely, we are assured in Daniel 2:44 that the Kingdom of Jesus Christ will overcome the entire world, and it will stand forever.

We have seen many attempts in recent years to put the pieces of Satan’s antichrist system together. One such example is the European Union, which united many European countries together under a common economic system. Although the European Union once seemed very strong and the euro eventually became one of the foremost currencies in the world, the system is now in great danger and could collapse altogether if something is not done to stabilize it. This represents just one of the pieces of the iron and clay empire, and although the entire one-world system will never be fully established, we can be certain that Satan will continue his attempts to seize control of this world and mankind until time has fully ended and our adversary has been destroyed. Thankfully, the children of God do not have to be assimilated into Satan’s worldly system of slavery, which is doomed to complete and utter failure. For as it says in Colossians 1:12-13, “Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light: Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son.” You can be a part of God’s everlasting Kingdom, written of in God’s Holy Word. If you have not yet fully given your heart to God, I urge you to do so now.

Portents Of Danger In The Continental United States!

In recent months Barack Obama has been quietly tightening his control on the American people through the passage of significant legislation and executive orders. Most notably, the National Defense Authorization Act, or NDAA, allows for the indefinite detention of American citizens if they are deemed to be a threat against national security. The most recent iteration of the Act was passed by the House of Representatives on May 18, 2012, and is now awaiting approval from the Senate. (1) The newest version of the act reaffirms the language which was added last year, allowing for Americans to be arrested and detained indefinitely.

In the April 2012 edition of the Last Trumpet, I wrote about an executive order signed by Barack Obama in March 2012, entitled “National Defense Resources Preparedness,” which allows the government to seize control of national resources such as food supply and production, energy resources, water resources, and transportation. (2) The Obama Administration struck again on July 6, 2012, when an executive order entitled “Assignment of National Security and Emergency Preparedness Communications Functions” was issued, which will allow the government to seize control of all communication systems in the United States during a time of emergency. Section one of the executive order states the following, “The Federal Government must have the ability to communicate at all times and under all circumstances to carry out its most critical and time sensitive missions. Survivable, resilient, enduring, and effective communications, both domestic and international, are essential to enable the executive branch to communicate within itself and with: the legislative and judicial branches; State, local, territorial, and tribal governments; private sector entities; and the public, allies, and other nations. Such communications must be possible under all circumstances to ensure national security, effectively manage emergencies, and improve national resilience. The views of all levels of government, the private and nonprofit sectors, and the public must inform the development of national security and emergency preparedness (NS/EP) communications policies, programs, and capabilities.” (3) The order also stipulates that the Secretary of Homeland Security is authorized to seize control of “commercial, Government, and privately owned communications resources when appropriate.” (4)

When we consider the ramifications of the provisions found in the National Defense Authorization Act and the recent executive orders signed by Barack Obama, it becomes clear that the United States government has grown increasingly nervous regarding the potential for a crisis on American soil. In fact, a report, written by retired U.S. Army Colonel Kevin Benson and published in the Small Wars Journal, presents a hypothetical scenario in which a civil war breaks out in the year 2016. In Colonel Benson’s scenario, members of the Tea Party seize control of Darlington, South Carolina, and place the mayor of the city under house arrest. They then set up checkpoints on nearby interstate highways and place a chokehold on the American transportation system while simultaneously building up their supply of weaponry and ammunition. (5) In the report, Colonel Benson concludes that the United States military must not hesitate to fight against their fellow Americans, stating that “Americans will expect the military to execute without pause and as professionally as if it were acting overseas.” (6) The article further states, “Army officers are professionally obligated to consider the conduct of operations on U.S. soil.” (7)

Meanwhile, reports have surfaced indicating that the United States Department of Homeland Security is stockpiling massive amounts of ammunition. A news report, dated March 13, 2012, states that the government agency has ordered up to 450 million rounds of .40 caliber ammunition from weapons contractor ATK in Minnesota. (8) Further reports indicate that Homeland Security has also ordered an additional 750 million rounds of ammunition of various types. (9) Although it is not unusual for Homeland Security to purchase large amounts of ammunition, their recent acquisitions are much larger than usual. In 2009, the agency only purchased 200 million rounds of ammunition. (10)

Will there be widespread unrest in the United States or even a civil war? Only God knows for sure; however, the government does seem to be preparing for something, and they have been keeping quiet about their plans. It is also interesting to note that Russia, a nation whose government has grown increasingly critical and antagonist toward the United States, was recently discovered to have been operating a nuclear powered submarine in the Gulf of Mexico. The submarine, which was armed with missiles, operated undetected in U.S. waters for several weeks, and the United States Navy did not detect the underwater vessel until it was already leaving the area. (11)

High Tensions In The Middle East!

Tensions in the Middle East have risen to new heights in recent weeks according to numerous news reports. In late July 2012, Syrian Foreign Ministry spokesman Jihad Makdissi threatened to use chemical and biological weapons if foreign governments should dare to launch an attack against the regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. “No chemical or biological weapons will ever be used, and I repeat, will never be used, during the crisis in Syria no matter what the developments inside Syria. All of these types of weapons are in storage and under security and the direct supervision of the Syrian armed forces and will never be used unless Syria is exposed to external aggression,” Makdissi declared. (12) It other words, the Syrian regime claims they will not use their chemical weapons against the Syrian people, but they are willing to use them against foreign governments, such as the United States. In response to the threat, Barack Obama has warned the Syrian government that America is willing to launch an attack against them if they begin preparations to use chemical weapons. “We cannot have a situation in which chemical or biological weapons are falling into the hands of the wrong people. We have been very clear to the Assad regime but also to other players on the ground that a red line for us is, we start seeing a whole bunch of weapons moving around or being utilized. That would change my calculus. That would change my equation,” Obama stated. (13) In response to Obama’s threat against Syria, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov declared, “Direct military intervention in Syria is impossible because whoever thinks about it… is heading towards a confrontation wider than Syria’s borders.” (14) Meanwhile, Mohsen Rezaie, who serves as secretary of the Expediency Council in Iran and is an adviser to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has warned that Syria must not be allowed to fall into American control. “If Syria falls into the hands of the Americans, the Islamic Awakening movement will become American. But if Syria maintains its policies, the Islamic Awakening will take root in Islam,” Rezaie said. (15) As of this writing, the Syrian conflict has lasted over seventeen months and has claimed the lives of an estimated 23,000 people. (16)

The tension between Israel and Iran has also escalated with each side issuing threats against the other. Regarding the impasse between Israel and Iran, Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak stated, “They [Iran] have a choice to make. They can either negotiate in a way that tries to resolve these issues and has them abiding by international rules and requirements and giving up their effort to develop their nuclear capability. But if they don’t, and if they continue to make the decision to proceed with a nuclear weapon, we have options that we are prepared to implement to ensure that does not happen.” (17) The stern remarks from Israeli officials have had little impact on Iran who has promised a “swift, decisive and destructive” response to any attack launched by Israel. (18) Iranian officials have issued numerous vitriolic statements against Israel in recent days. “If the Zionists commit the folly and attack Iran, they will receive a crushing response from Islamic Republic’s armed forces which will lead to their annihilation,” Mohsen Rezaie boasted. (19) Some remarks from the Iranian goverment appear to be an attempt to goad Israel into launching an attack. “The existence of the Zionist regime is an insult to all humanity,” declared Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. (20) In another remark, Ahmadinejad declared, “The Zionist regime and the Zionists are a cancerous tumor. Even if one cell of them is left in one inch of (Palestinian) land, in the future this story (of Israel’s existence) will repeat. The nations of the region will soon finish off the usurper Zionists in the Palestinian land… A new Middle East will definitely be formed. With the grace of God and help of the nations, in the new Middle East there will be no trace of the Americans and Zionists.” (21)

It is now more likely than ever that a war will soon break out between Israel and Iran. “We are getting close to crunch time. If we do not act, it’s almost certain that Iran will go nuclear. If we do act, there’s a good chance that Iran will not go nuclear for quite some time,” stated an Israeli government official speaking on a condition of anonymity. (22) Meanwhile, a recent news broadcast on Israel’s Channel 10 News announced that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu “is determined to attack Iran before the US elections.” The television network’s reporter, Alon Ben-David, told viewers, “From the prime minister’s point of view, the time for action is getting ever closer.” Ben-David further went on to say that he believed even Barack Obama himself would be unable to dissuade Netanyahu from launching an attack. The report also declared that they believe Israel is planning to launch an operation against Iran before the next presidential election in the United States. (23)

We may soon see this whole world engulfed in war and strife. With so much potential for conflict, we need our Saviour now more than ever. When Jesus spoke of the “wars and rumors of wars,” along with earthquakes, famines, and pestilences, He warned that this calamity would be “the beginning of sorrows.” Yet, we know that through our God we can overcome sorrow and tribulation. For as Jesus told us in John 16:33, “In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.”

An Unsettling Glimpse At Future Technology!

As I performed my research for this newsletter, I could not help but notice there were many articles surfacing which bore a stronger resemblance to science fiction than reality. These news stories provided an unsettling look at future technology and present a time when genetically modified humans becomes the norm and electronic components are embedded directly into the bodies of men, women, and children.

At the forefront of these strange ambitions is the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, or DARPA, which is one of the research divisions of the United States Military at the Pentagon. One of the goals of the scientists at DARPA is to produce genetically modified soldiers, which can run at Olympic speeds, go without sleep for forty hours, and avoid eating for several days at a time. Research is also being performed that scientists are hoping will someday allow soldiers to regrow injured limbs. (24) Other strange technology being researched by DARPA includes an exoskeleton for human beings that would allow them to run for hours at a time and lift weights normally beyond human capabilities, contact lenses which would transmit imagery from satellites and drones to soldiers on the battlefield, and helmets which would allow soldiers to read each other’s thoughts and communicate telepathically. (25) It was also announced in May 2012 that DARPA is hoping to implant soldiers with nanosensors, which would be used to monitor vital signs of the troops and detect any illnesses they may have contracted. (26)

It has now come to light that the pharmaceutical company known as GlaxoSmithKline has begun research into bioelectronics, which they are hoping will someday allow doctors to treat a plethora of medical issues using electronics implanted or otherwise attached to the human body. According to a report by the Financial Times, bioelectronics may someday be used to treat such illnesses as stroke, epilepsy, and depression. (27)

One scientist has made the bold claim that humanity is now only twenty years away from achieving immortality through the use of nanotechnology. “I and many other scientists now believe that in around twenty years we will have the means to reprogram our bodies’ stone-age software so we can halt, then reverse, aging. Then nanotechnology will let us live forever. Ultimately, nanobots will replace blood cells and do their work thousands of times more effectively,” declared scientist Ray Kurzweil. (28) Kurzweil further went on to say, “These technologies should not seem at all fanciful. Our phones now perform tasks we wouldn’t have dreamed possible twenty years ago. When I was a student in 1965, my university’s only computer cost seven million (British Pounds) and was huge.” Concluding his article, Kurzweil wrote, “We can look forward to a world where humans become cyborgs, with artificial limbs and organs.” (29)

These truly are amazing times in which we live. Knowledge is increasing at an ever-increasing pace, and the scientific community is growing bolder in their aspirations, which now include god-like ambitions. However, I do not believe God will ever allow them to fully develop their technology, and He certainly will not allow man to achieve immortality through technology. We know from the book of Genesis that God blocked access to the Tree of Life in the Garden of Eden. There is only one way to achieve eternal life and that is through the Lord Jesus Christ.

    The Disastrous Consequences Of Drought!

As the persistent drought of 2012 continues, we are beginning to see the consequences of such a dry environment throughout the United States. According to a report released on August 21, 2012, much of the nation’s corn crop is rated as “poor to very poor condition.” Overall, 51 percent of all corn crops are underperforming with some states having an even higher percentage. The percentage points for poor crops in several states are as follows: Illinois, 73 percent; Indiana, 70 percent; Kansas, 73 percent; Michigan, 48 percent; Missouri, 84 percent; Nebraska, 41 percent; Ohio, 54 percent; and Wisconsin, 36 percent. (30) Analysts have warned that the price of corn will likely continue to rise further. “I still believe that December corn will eventually move to new highs above $8.50 per bushel, with a move about $9 likely needed to adequately ration demand in the ethanol and livestock industries,” said Arlan Suderman of Farm Futures Magazine. (31)

As a consequence of the drought, the Mississippi River, which is one of the major shipping channels in the United States, is drying up. News reports indicate that many boats and barges have run aground, and other vessels have been forced to lighten their loads, which means it costs more to ship grains and other commodities. “Everybody’s having to lighten the loads up and knock the barges [and] the size of the tows down,” said Daryl Wheeler of the Canal Barge Company. (32) The condition of the Mississippi River stands at a stark contrast from last year when the river was flooded. In fact, the river’s water levels are now a mind-boggling fifty-five feet lower than they were last year, and thirteen feet below normal. (33) Those involved in the shipping industry say the river is in its worst condition since 1988, a year in which a drought caused over one billion dollars in losses for shipping companies who operate on the Mississippi. “For the last two or three weeks, the phrase I keep hearing is, ‘close to 1988. Worse than 1988. Same as 1988.’ The estimate was that the industry lost over $1 billion. And that doesn’t include any of the ripple effects. There’s a real possibility that it will be worse this year,” declared Lynne Muench, senior vice president at American Waterways Operators. (34)

When I consider the current condition of the Mississippi River, I cannot help but think of Isaiah 50:2 which tells us, “Wherefore, when I came, was there no man? When I called, was there none to answer? Is my hand shortened at all, that it cannot redeem? Or have I no power to deliver? Behold, at my rebuke I dry up the sea, I make the rivers a wilderness: their fish stinketh, because there is no water, and dieth for thirst.” I believe that God is using the current drought as a warning to the population at large in the United States. Sadly, it seems that few people understand this, and instead choose to persist in their actions which are displeasing to the Lord.

An Outbreak Of West Nile Virus!

In the Holy Scriptures, Jesus warned us that the human race would experience pestilences in the days leading up to His return. Unfortunately, the United States is now suffering from the worst outbreak of West Nile Virus in history. As of this writing, there have been over 1,100 cases of the disease in 38 states, and 41 people have died. (35) “The number of West Nile disease cases in people has risen dramatically. We are in the midst of one of the largest West Nile outbreaks ever seen,” said Lyle Petersen, MD, director of the division of vector-borne diseases at the Center for Disease Control. Dr. Petersen went on to say, “Those who get more ill with West Nile fever will be laid up in bed for days or a week, followed by a period of just feeling awful. And there can be a fatigue syndrome where people remain fatigued for weeks or months. It lasts longer than we used to think.” (36)

The state of Texas has been hardest hit by the West Nile Virus outbreak, and this has prompted the mayor of the city of Dallas to begin spraying an insecticide known as Duet Dual-Action Adulticide, which is known to be toxic to fish and aquatic life. Stating his rationale for the spraying, Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings stated, “I cannot have any more deaths on my conscience because we did not take action.” (37)

    A Stumbling Global Economy!

In these uncertain times, we are seeing many indicators that the economies of the world may be facing many challenges in the days ahead. In the United States, we have seen a lackluster “recovery,” despite Barack Obama’s assertion that the economy is improving. According to a recent report by CNBC, unemployment rose in forty-four states during the month of July 2012. (38) Meanwhile, Reuters has reported that Federal Reserve chairman Ben Bernanke is considering another round of monetary stimulus. “Many members judged that additional monetary accommodation would likely be warranted fairly soon unless incoming information pointed to a substantial and sustainable strengthening in the pace of the economic recovery,” Bernanke stated. (39) Additionally, the Congressional Budget Office has issued a warning declaring that the United States will likely suffer from another recession in 2013 if action is not taken to extend tax cuts and avoid sweeping automatic cuts to spending. (40) The possible scenario has been referred to as a “fiscal cliff” by economists, lawmakers, and the mainstream news media.

Sadly, the debt crisis in Europe only seems to be growing worse as we progress through time. According to a report from August 2012, the European nation of France is now in a recession. (41) The United Kingdom is also suffering from a recession that has now persisted for three consecutive fiscal quarters, while the second quarter of 2012 saw an economic contraction far more severe than what had been anticipated. Speaking of the recently released data in the United Kingdom, economist Peter Dixon declared, “Frankly there’s nothing good that comes out of these numbers at all. The economy looks to be badly holed below the water line at this stage. It’s a far worse period of activity than we’d expected.” (42)

It now appears increasingly likely that European nations will soon abandon the euro currency. In fact, Citigroup has declared that there is a 90 percent chance that Greece will leave the euro within the next twelve to eighteen months. (43) In response to recent events, the nation of Finland has announced that it has begun preparing for a breakup of the eurozone. “We have to face openly the possibility of a euro breakup. It is not something that anybody is advocating in Finland, let alone the government. But we have to be prepared,” stated Erikki Tuomioja, one of Finland’s foreign ministers. (44)

In closing, I know that there is so much more that could be written about the troubled world in which we live. I also realize that absorbing the news reports of today’s current events can be difficult for some people, and it is for that reason I want to remind everyone who reads this newsletter that we have a loving Saviour who will be with us every step of the way as we face the many challenges our adversary places in our paths. Yes, Satan is attempting to establish a one world antichrist system, but it is an empire of iron and clay, and it will not stand. I urge all of you to put your faith and trust in God. Thank you to all who so generously support this ministry. We at Last Trumpet Ministries are blessed to be able to serve you and will endeavor to work as hard as we can until the glorious return of our Saviour. If you have any prayer requests, please feel welcome to send them our way. We will gladly carry your petition before the throne of the Almighty. Grace and peace be unto you in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.

DOES THE MILITARY HELP THE POLICE LOOKING FOR POT???Black Hawk lands in woman’s back yard, searching for drugs??WTH!!!!!THINK OF THE GAS IT TAKE TO RUN A BLACK HAWK!!According to statistics the Black Hawk helicopter goes approximately 0.74 miles per gallon (a 450 gallon tank provides 334 mile range). This is relatively inefficient, especially considering that the helicopter can reach top speeds of up to 182 mph. If we add up all of the helicopters in the militaries around the world, we see some pretty high numbers in terms of fuel consumption.MORE TAX DOLLAR WASTE!!! YOU COULD HAVE SENT 12 CROWN VICS FOR THE SAME FUEL COST LIKE THE LAST TIME I GOT PULLED OVER!!PUT YOUR HANDS UP. GET OF THE CAR!! MINNEAPOLIS!!!!THEY ARE NOT JUST A NHL TEAM ANY MORE IN CHICAGO !Black Hawk Helicopters Over Downtown Chicago –,mod=14&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8 AND HERE COMES THE TEACHERS TOO IN CHICAGO!!!

The parallels between the late 20s and today are alarming. They too had disasterous crops. They too had a bank problem. They too had a working class out of work. They too had massive foreclosures.
The banks went under. People no longer trusted their money in banks. Sound familiar?
The food problem will hit this winter. The money situation will be the day after the presidential election or January 2nd.
The fix is to support the effort of getting the farmers back in business. Everything really boils down to feeding our population. If there is no food then people will starve.
Another fix is to make everyone work for what they get. No more welfare for doing nothing.
Future shock from technology is also taking a toll.
A “world” economy just will not work when one side of the globe has such a low premium on human life.
We need to be at war. But the war we need to be is to feed everyone.

I agree Dave, there are so many similarities. The sad thing is that these days so few of us have a garden or even a few chickens that could help feed your family. Us city folks NEED to stock up. NOW! Get some basics at the local store and the hard to find stuff such as powdered eggs and freeze dried meats at Their food as a super long shelf life without any refrigeration. When the run on the stores start it will be too late!
