I’m 63 And I’m Tired

The following is a piece entitled "I'm 63 and I'm Tired" by Robert A. Hall that has been floating around the Internet. It was recently forwarded to us in an email, and we thought that it expressed the emotions that so many Americans are feeling right now that we should post it here.
If you are touched by Mr. Hall's letter, please send it out to as many of your friends and family as you can....
I'm 63. Except for one semester in college when jobs were scarce and a six-month period when I was between jobs, but job-hunting every day, I've worked, hard, since I was 18. Despite some health challenges, I still put in 50-hour weeks, and haven't called in sick in seven or eight years. I make a good salary, but I didn't inherit my job or my income, and I worked to get where I am. Given the economy, there's no retirement in sight, and I'm tired. Very tired.
I'm tired of being told that I have to "spread the wealth" to people who don't have my work ethic. I'm tired of being told the government will take the money I earned, by force if necessary, and give it to people too lazy to earn it.
I'm tired of being told that I have to pay more taxes to "keep people in their homes." Sure, if they lost their jobs or got sick, I'm willing to help. But if they bought McMansions at three times the price of our paid-off, $250,000 condo, on one-third of my salary, then let the left-wing Congress-critters who passed Fannie and Freddie and the Community Reinvestment Act that created the bubble help them with their own money.
I'm tired of being told how bad America is by left-wing millionaires like Michael Moore, George Soros and Hollywood Entertainers who live in luxury because of the opportunities America offers. In thirty years, if they get their way, the United States will have the economy of Zimbabwe , the freedom of the press of China , the crime and violence of Mexico , the tolerance for Christian people of Iran , and the freedom of speech of Venezuela .
I'm tired of being told that Islam is a "Religion of Peace," when every day I can read dozens of stories of Muslim men killing their sisters, wives and daughters for their family "honor"; of Muslims rioting over some slight offense; of Muslims murdering Christian and Jews because they aren't "believers"; of Muslims burning schools for girls; of Muslims stoning teenage rape victims to death for "adultery"; of Muslims mutilating the genitals of little girls; all in the name of Allah, because the Qur'an and Shari'a law tells them to.
I'm tired of being told that "race doesn't matter" in the post-racial world of Obama, when it's all that matters in affirmative action jobs, lower college admission and graduation standards for minorities (harming them the most), government contract set-asides, tolerance for the ghetto culture of violence and fatherless children that hurts minorities more than anyone, and in the appointment of U . S . Senators from Illinois.
I think it's very cool that we have a black president and that a black child is doing her homework at the desk where Lincoln wrote the Emancipation Proclamation. I just wish the black president was Condi Rice, or someone who believes more in freedom and the individual and less arrogantly of an all-knowing government.
I'm tired of a news media that thinks Bush's fundraising and inaugural expenses were obscene, but that think Obama's, at triple the cost, were wonderful; that thinks Bush exercising daily was a waste of presidential time, but Obama exercising is a great example for the public to control weight and stress; that picked over every line of Bush's military records, but never demanded that Kerry release his; that slammed Palin, with two years as governor, for being too inexperienced for VP, but touted Obama with three years as senator as potentially the best president ever. Wonder why people are dropping their subscriptions or switching to Fox News? Get a clue. I didn't vote for Bush in 2000, but the media and Kerry drove me to his camp in 2004.
I'm tired of being told that out of "tolerance for other cultures" we must let Saudi Arabia use our oil money to fund mosques and madrassa Islamic schools to preach hate in America , while no American group is allowed to fund a church, synagogue or religious school in Saudi Arabia to teach love and tolerance.
I'm tired of being told I must lower my living standard to fight global warming, which no one is allowed to debate. My wife and I live in a two-bedroom apartment and carpool together five miles to our jobs. We also own a three-bedroom condo where our daughter and granddaughter live. Our carbon footprint is about 5% of Al Gore's, and if you're greener than Gore, you're green enough.
I'm tired of being told that drug addicts have a disease, and I must help support and treat them, and pay for the damage they do. Did a giant germ rush out of a dark alley, grab them, and stuff white powder up their noses while they tried to fight it off? I don't think Gay people choose to be Gay, but I damn sure think druggies chose to take drugs. And I'm tired of harassment from cool people treating me like a freak when I tell them I never tried marijuana.
I'm tired of illegal aliens being called "undocumented workers," especially the ones who aren't working, but are living on welfare or crime. What's next? Calling drug dealers, "Undocumented Pharmacists"? And, no, I'm not against Hispanics. Most of them are Catholic, and it's been a few hundred years since Catholics wanted to kill me for my religion. I'm willing to fast track for citizenship any Hispanic person, who can speak English, doesn't have a criminal record and who is self-supporting without family on welfare, or who serves honorably for three years in our military.... Those are the citizens we need.
I'm tired of latte liberals and journalists, who would never wear the uniform of the Republic themselves, or let their entitlement-handicapped kids near a recruiting station, trashing our military. They and their kids can sit at home, never having to make split-second decisions under life and death circumstances, and bad mouth better people than themselves. Do bad things happen in war? You bet. Do our troops sometimes misbehave? Sure. Does this compare with the atrocities that were the policy of our enemies for the last fifty years and still are? Not even close. So here's the deal. I'll let myself be subjected to all the humiliation and abuse that was heaped on terrorists at Abu Ghraib or Gitmo, and the critics can let themselves be subject to captivity by the Muslims, who tortured and beheaded Daniel Pearl in Pakistan, or the Muslims who tortured and murdered Marine Lt. Col. William Higgins in Lebanon, or the Muslims who ran the blood-spattered Al Qaeda torture rooms our troops found in Iraq, or the Muslims who cut off the heads of schoolgirls in Indonesia, because the girls were Christian. Then we'll compare notes. British and American soldiers are the only troops in history that civilians came to for help and handouts, instead of hiding from in fear.
I'm tired of people telling me that their party has a corner on virtue and the other party has a corner on corruption. Read the papers; bums are bipartisan. And I'm tired of people telling me we need bipartisanship. I live in Illinois , where the "Illinois Combine" of Democrats has worked to loot the public for years. Not to mention the tax cheats in Obama's cabinet.
I'm tired of hearing wealthy athletes, entertainers and politicians of both parties talking about innocent mistakes, stupid mistakes or youthful mistakes, when we all know they think their only mistake was getting caught. I'm tired of people with a sense of entitlement, rich or poor.
Speaking of poor, I'm tired of hearing people with air-conditioned homes, color TVs and two cars called poor. The majority of Americans didn't have that in 1970, but we didn't know we were "poor." The poverty pimps have to keep changing the definition of poor to keep the dollars flowing.
I'm real tired of people who don't take responsibility for their lives and actions. I'm tired of hearing them blame the government, or discrimination or big-whatever for their problems.
Yes, I'm damn tired . But I'm also glad to be 63. Because, mostly, I'm not going to have to see the world these people are making. I'm just sorry for my granddaughter.

I’m tired of neo-cons thinking they own the truth. I’m tired of their god-bless-america bull****, as if they know (1) there’ s a god and (2) americans have been chosen by her because we’re special. I’m tired of Faux Noise claiming the moral high ground. I’m tired of Republicans claiming Democrats are the problem and vice-versa. We’re a country of two parties, but only one ideology. And I’m especially tired of that ideology, which believes in economic growth at all costs.
No disrespect Mr. Hall, but you might want to research what is really going on. The global banking elite has you right where they want you. Looking toward your fellow middle and lower class neighbors and being angry at them for not pulling their weight. It is not your neighbors fault. They are not lazy. Look at the income distribution and wealth disparity in this country. It is at an all time high. That is not an accident.
At 63 your generation was the recipient of the largest expansion in world history. This was due to the Age of Oil. You rode a wave of money you didn’t even know you were on. Anyone of Baby Boomer age who did not get wealthy was either unlucky or stupid.
But your generation robbed Peter to Pay yourselves. Look at the budget deficits run up under your watch. Your generation took the money and ran. Yeah you worked hard. So did serfs in the middle ages, so did slaves through out history. Your hard work ought to be rewarded, but not at the expense of future generations.
Do yourself a favor and point your anger and frustration where it will do some good.

I,m 63 and tired also. I quite school at 15 and went to work, I went to Vietnam at age 17, before my 20th birthday I completed two tours in Vietnam. I worked 30.5 years for the same company, took off two years for college and went to work at a school. I’m tired of this spoiled generation that has never had to work and never will. I’m tired of this spoiled generation that thinks that the day they graduate high school, someone owes them a college education, a new auto, and a big new house. Try working for something for a change.
I’m tired of being told that half of everything I make belongs to the government to be dirtributed to those that are not willing to work.
Thank you for posting my piece, “I’m Tired.” To the person who wrote about deficits, I’d point out that the deficits run up by the last four years (07-10) of a Democrat Congress far outstrip the deficits run up in the previous 12 years of a Republican Congress (95-06), not that the Republicans are blameless on deficits or other problems, as I said in “I’m Tired” and other pieces.
People who wish to comment on it can find it on my blog: http://www.tartanmarine.blogspot.com under February of 09. If you liked it, you may also like the posts below, or my almost daily political digest. ~Bob

Helping Obama

We need more people like Robert.
We are so blinded by color in this country. Let’s have a hypothetical situation. Let’s say that Obama had the same ideas for the country and everything is exactly as it is right now…except for the darker pigment in his skin. Make Obama white with all the same views and opinions that black Obama has….would anybody have voted for him? Everyone just wanted to see a black man become president…and it seems at any cost. Either that or you only vote for democrats no matter how bad of a president you know they will be.
Well look what poor decisions cost us…our freedom.
How can such a great country just throw itself down the toilet in the name of being “politically correct”?
Robert, most of these young people have no idea what our generation is or was about. Yes, there were mistakes made in the name of Peace and Love, however, the majority of us respected our Military and our Country, we took to the streets in order to make America a better place to live during the Civil Rights Movement and we fought for Women’s Rights, we fought for America and were proud to do it !! Though some ran to Canada. No one wants to go to war, however, if it were not for men willing to die for our freedom, we would now be in the hands of England, Germany or Japan ! We know how to dig ditches or flip hamburgers and still be proud to be making a living, we did not whine because it wasn’t the job we wanted or the pay we wanted. We were proud to drive around in our 1957 Chevys’ ! Our parents did not Buy our love, they showed us their love through example, through hard work and through disipline. No Sir, these young people have no idea what they are talking about, however, they will if Obama has his way!!! There will be no more gravy trains for a spoiled, disrespectful youth ! Life is an education and with Obama’s plan they will see all of their Freedoms and wealth disappear. Spread the wealth, huh, well that means that no one’s neighbor will have any more than you and maybe you will have less in order to make sure the wealth is spread around. So Spoiled Youth,
you want that new ipod, computer, house or car?? Sorry, it’s not in the plan of Barack Obama !!! You want a better home or appartment ? Sorry, you have to wait 10 years on a list, there are too many people ahead of you. You want a doctor’s appointment, get on a list and we will call you, oh,say in about 6 months!
America IS the greatest country on earth, however we aren’t teaching that. America is being demonized by it’s revised History Books, by it’s Politicians’, by it’s own President and by some of it’s Citizens!!! Why, just in the last few days’, I read that Wilder Publications is now placing a disclaimer in the new publication of the Constitution !!! It seems that our Constitution and Declaration of Independence is not Politically Correct enough !! It is Not of our times or culture !! I am so angry and all I can do is vent and write my Congressmen! While I am a woman, I would fight to the death to keep my children and grandchildren in a Constitutionally Free America and would be proud to do it!! Though, it might be in a wheel chair, pretty soon . lol In our day, boys’ were drafted into the Military and they grew into men there, if they were not killed in war. Today, we need that same kind of training for our young men and woman after graduation, to instill a sense of Honor, Respect and Disipline. With the on set of a Volunteer Army, we have lost in the Civilian Community, a sense of duty and pride in the defense of America. The past was not all good and we cannot defend the indefenseable .For the most part, we were not and are not cowards and whiners. Our world was a much different world, one in which we expected to be attacked any day, by the Russians’. These youngster’s today would not make a pimple on my Dad’s rear-end !!!! His generation is the one you may thank for not speaking German or Japanese! For having the courage to fight a Dictator so clearly a madman, that beyond all odds, the Allies won WWW ll. That is the legacy of today’s world. God Bless America!!
By the way, Spoiled Youth, What have You done to make America a Better and Safer place ???????????
Not A Blessed Thing !!!!!
Good email brother! I am of a younger generation but was brought up by two wonderful parents who instilled work ethic, integrity and a great sense of right and wrong. I joined the Marines out of a sense of patriotism and service to my country. It saddens me to see where this country is going. We used to be a pillar of light to oppressed countries and now we are apologizing for it. We used to be strong against rogue nations but are now weak and pandering. We used to take pride in our flag but not walk and spit on it using the excuse given to us by that falg. We used to be a country of God fearing people but have become a country of God hating people. We used to be a country of fair tolerance but are now a country of ignorant and blind tolerance. I read a great bumper sticker today. It said “If Obama’s the answer, how stupid was the question?”. I could have never imagined how quickly this country could turn up side down with one President and in only a year and a half. I would like to thank you and all our brothers and sisters who volunteer to serve this country and I pray that God’s wisdom will eventually work its way back into our leadership.
I’m tired too. I’m tired of our generation being blamed for being lazy and lacking work ethic–did we raise ourselves? I’m tired of no one accepting the blame for spoiled, expecting, up and coming generations. The very people who raised these children complain about who they are! I’m tired of the elite deciding our future without asking anyone … See Moreof us. Mostly I’m tired of the old men in congress shredding our rights every day for the rights they had their entire lives and then having the audacity to throw it back on us. I’m exhausted at the bitching and moaning of older generations, too busy pointing fingers and allowing Faux News to decide what the truth is and perpetuating cruel lies to benefit what they want to the truth to be. It is exhausting to think, that if all of those people who are out of work, picked up a volunteer job, just how much better this country would be. I’m even more exhausted thinking of the pieces we will have to pick up long after this “hard working” generation is gone. They worked hard alright. So hard our founding fathers are rolling in their graves as the sight of what their ideas have become. The very men we have allowed to be in our congress have raped and pillaged our generations rights. So yea, I’m pretty damn tired too.
Dear Mr. Hall,
Thank you for your statement. I’m 55 and tired also. Everything you stated I hear from so many other people, and I too agree with you. Those who disagree are foolish and blind to the world around them. Americans do not think they are special, we simple believe that this was once a great country, a place where one can be free from harm, free to believe the religion of choice, freedom to disagree with our government. This is still a great country, it just needs to come back to the morals it once had, to the patriotism and respect for our flag and country that made this great land. America does not think it is better than anyone else, we simple think everyone has the right to life/liberty and happiness without fear.
America and Americans need to remember just what made this country great. IN GOD WE TRUST, hard work, and protect its people.
Keep voicing your opinion, bravo to you. And to the others what do not understand what it means to be free, to young to understand what life under a dictatorship would be, to young to remember Hitler and the horrors, etc,. I say to you please read your history.
GOD BLESS AMERICA, and Thank you to ALL Troops that help keep us safe, we may need you home soon to help here…
