Former Vice President Dick Cheney has been extremely unpopular for a long time, but now he is deeply offending both conservatives and liberals at the same time by endorsing gay marriage while also suggesting that if Guantanamo Bay must be closed, the only other alternative would be to kill all the prisoners.
Perhaps we should just be thankful that this lunatic never actually became president.
Many Americans are completely outraged by a comment Cheney made the other day about the prisoners being held at Guantanamo Bay. Cheney told the press that the only alternative to holding some suspected terrorists indefinitely would be to execute all of them.
According to Newsmax, Cheney's exact quote was this: "If you're going to be engaged in a world conflict such as we are, such as the global war on terrorism, if you don't have a place where you can hold these people, your only other option is to kill them."
Just line them up and gun them all down?
Apparently he has thought about this quite a bit.
Perhaps it never occurred to him that some of these prisoners could actually be innocent.
It is well known that some militants in Afghanistan were turning in rivals or even innocent people in order to get the big cash rewards that the Americans were offering.
But Cheney is not only deeply offending liberals now.
Now Cheney is feeling free to stick it to conservatives too.
Cheney has now publicly stated that he supports legalizing same-sex marriage as long as the issue is decided by the states, rather than by the federal government.
The truth is that many political analysts are not surprised by this revelation by Cheney.
Cheney's youngest daughter has a longtime lesbian partner, and it is well known that Bush and Cheney did not always see eye to eye on these types of issues.
Cheney told the National Press Club that "people ought to be free to enter into any kind of union they wish, any kind of arrangement they wish."
The ironic thing is that this actually makes Cheney "more liberal" than Barack Obama on this issue. Obama has publicly stated that he is in favor of "civil unions" but not marriage for gay couples.
