Rise Of The Preppers: 50 Of The Best Prepper Websites And Blogs On The Internet

Preppers 450x409 Rise Of The Preppers: 50 Of The Best Prepper Websites And Blogs On The Internet

Are you preparing for the collapse of society?  If so, the truth is that you are definitely not alone.  The number of preppers in the U.S. has absolutely exploded in recent years.  It has been estimated that there are now approximately 3 million preppers in the United States, and “Doomsday Preppers” is currently the highest rated show on the National Geographic channel.  In fact, you could be living next to a prepper and never even know it.  All over America, families are transforming spare rooms into long-term food storage pantries, planting survival gardens, unplugging from the grid, converting their homes over to alternative sources of energy, taking self-defense courses and stocking up on just about everything that you can imagine.  The re-election of Barack Obama and other recent events seem to have given the prepper movement even more momentum.  For example, in January the U.S. Mint broke all kinds of records and sold nearly half a billion dollars worth of gold and silver coins to the public.  Not only that, Americans bought enough guns during the last two months of 2012 alone to supply the entire armies of China and India.  When it comes to prepping, nobody can match the passion that Americans put into it.

So what are all of these people prepping for?

Well, the truth is that no two preppers have the exact same motivation.  There is a general consensus among preppers that our world is becoming increasingly unstable, but when you sit down and talk with them you find out that there are a whole host of different civilization-killing events that various preppers are concerned about.  Some are preparing for the collapse of the economy.  Others are extremely concerned about the potential for crippling natural disasters and catastrophic earth changes. To other preppers, the rise of the “Big Brother” surveillance grid that is being constructed all around us is the greatest danger, and many of them warn of the tyrannical agenda of the New World Order.  Terrorism, killer pandemics, EMP attacks, World War III, martial law, solar megastorms, asteroid strikes and societal chaos are some of the other things that many preppers are worried about.  There are even some preppers that are not worried about any “threats” at all – they just want to get “back to the land” and want to become less dependent on the system.

Whatever the motivation, it is undeniable that the prepper movement has gotten very large and that it continues to grow.

In fact, there was a recent article in the New York Times about preppers that was actually written by a prepper entitled “The Preppers Next Door“…

To the unprepared, the very word “prepper” is likely to summon images of armed zealots hunkered down in bunkers awaiting the End of Days, but the reality, at least here in New York, is less dramatic. Local Preppers are doctors, doormen, charter school executives, subway conductors, advertising writers and happily married couples from the Bronx. They are no doubt people that you know — your acquaintances and neighbors. People, I’ll admit, like myself.

I was absolutely amazed that one of the key mouthpieces of the establishment, the New York Times, would publish an article that was mostly positive about preppers, because the truth is that prepping is essentially a huge expression of a lack of faith in the establishment.   Even the article admitted as much…

PREPPING IS THE BIG SHORT: a bet not just against a city, or a country or a government, but against the whole idea of sustainable civilization. For that reason, it chafes against one of polite society’s last remaining taboos — that the way we live is not simply plagued by certain problems, but is itself insolubly problematic.

And that is exactly right.  There are millions of us that are entirely convinced that the world around us is becoming increasingly unstable and that “the system” will not be there to take care of us when everything falls to pieces.

With each passing day, even more Americans lose faith in the system and begin prepping.  If you are one of those new preppers, there are actually dozens of great websites out there on the Internet where you can get an education about prepping for free.  The list of websites and blogs that I have compiled below contains more articles and resources than you could ever possibly need.  Hopefully many of you will find this list to be extremely helpful.

The sad truth is that our world is becoming increasingly unstable in a whole bunch of different ways and we all need to learn how to prepare for the difficult years ahead.

Unfortunately, most Americans simply are not prepared for much of anything.

For example, a large percentage of Americans do not even have enough savings to get them through a single financial emergency.  According to one recent report, approximately 44 percent of all households in the United States are just one unexpected event away from financial disaster.

Most American families do not have much food stored up either.  One recent survey discovered that 55 percent of all Americans have less than three days supply of food in their homes.

Could that possibly be accurate?  Do people really keep that little food in their homes?

Another survey asked Americans how long they think they could survive if the entire electrical grid went down and there was no more power for an extended period of time.  Incredibly, 21 percent of those who responded said that they would survive for less than a week, and an additional 28 percent of those who responded said that they would survive for less than two weeks.  Close to 75 percent of those who responded said that they would be dead before the two month mark.

So who are the crazy ones?

Are the people trying to become more independent and self-sufficient crazy, or are the people who have complete and total faith that the system will take care of them no matter what happens actually the crazy ones?

I don’t know about you, but I would prefer for myself and my family to at least have a chance to survive if society melts down for some reason.

What about you?

Are you a prepper?

Do you know some preppers?

Do you believe that people should be prepping?

It is truly amazing the percentage of people who do not even have 1-week food supply in their home. Years ago when I commuted and worked in a major city, I discovered this to be a reality while so many would eat-on-the-go, restaurants, and absolutely depend upon ‘systems’ to always be dependable for them.

I believe that many people nowadays feel in their gut that things aren’t quite right out there (in many regards), and are instinctively beginning to prep (whether they fully realize it or not). Unfortunately though, there will remain a huge dependent class who will be in dire straits, if and when the pillars of the system begin to collapse around them. Desperate people do desperate things… Be Prepared.

  • Rodster

I have about a 6 months supply of food which is not survival ready in case the power goes out. I’m now switching to food items that have a higher shelf life such as canned meats, peanut butter.

Another problem no one mentions if that the grid goes down and society collapses fearing an armed intruder will be the last of your worries as my concern is that the gubmint will send their minions from door to door looking to see what supplies you have to redistribute.

That’s why being creative on hiding your supplies is essential. I haven’t figured that out yet other than the trunk of my car or public storage.

All I know is I don’t like the way things are looking. That’s why I am
preparing myself for what looks like a failing economy and another
depression coming! First the Second Amendment then what? Looks to me as
if the Government is trying to slowly take away our rights as Americans.

Do NOT put them all in one place where the first looters will clean them all out. And by all means, do NOT leave garbage laying around. Looters will not only know that you have something to eat because you are alive, but they will know WHAT you are eating and torture you and your love ones till they find your stash.

  • A Dodgy Bloke

Many of these I know of and value, the issue is not the people
who went though the time and expense of being prepared but the lemmings who
don’t. Or my own personal favorate the ones who will get ready once things
start to turn to crap. You cant fix stupid.

    • Richard Morgan

Thats true to a point, but many of who you call “lemmings” are coming in droves these days to prepper sites to learn. We were all lemmings (99% of us) at one point or another before we figured all this out and decided to take a pragmatic approach. I think it is counterproductive to think “everyone should be like us” and then call those who arent derogatory names likes “lemmings” or “Sheeple”. It makes those who may be interested but still on the fence feel as though we are closed club with an elitist mentality…. I agree with you though, those who think they can just buy a few cases of ramen if the economy tanks will be the biggest problem….

Agreed. I try to give information openly, and hope that it is accepted in the manner it was intended, because I want to see people able to not just survive, but prosper, no matter the situation. Though, I must admit, I do have the occasional bout of frustration, and burst off with a “sheeple” or “ant and grasshopper” rant. But, they are getting fewer, as more of my friends and family are begining to realise that the things I have been talking about all these years are coming to pass now.

  • lux

Ten thousand years of human history and people have not had to store up food for winter for less than 200. Were all just banking on the supply chain holding together. If the chain breaks, endless summer changes to instant winter and almost no one is prepared.

    • Richard Morgan

I you build community and become your own supply chain you dont need to “bank on it”!

  • RICHARD

This is a great blog !! I feel pretty good about myself and family being ready for what is coming. The sad part is everyone one else, ( in laws ) think I am nuts.I have been trying to get them to wake up but it just isn’t happening.I don’t know how crazy it will get but i am feel pretty good about making it maybe for a year or two. That is only because I have a very small farm, with a few animals.

    • El Pollo de Oro

Richard: Back in the Summer of 2008, people were saying that Gerald Celente, Alex Jones and Peter Schiff were nuts for predicting that a major economic calamity was on the way. People told me I was an alarmist and a gloom-and-doomer. The Bushbots said things to me like, “We’re not in a recession. The economy is in great shape. Why do those libertarians hate Bush so much? Why do you listen to a crank like Ron Paul?” Etc., etc. Then came the big crash of Sept. 2008, and the fallout was every bit as bad as Gerald Celente, Alex Jones and Peter Schiff predicted it would be. So now, the Obamabots and their buddies on Wall Street are saying that happy days are here again and we’re out of the woods. But a mountain of evidence says otherwise. A mountain of evidence strongly indicates that Celente, Jones, Schiff and Chris Hedges are absolutely right when they say that the 1930s depression will look like a picnic at the Jersey Shore compared to what lies ahead.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Michael-Undercofler/100003243561443 Michael Undercofler

If you can make it a year or two, you’ll be able to make it indefinatly. And the inlaws will come around, either slowly as things get more publicly worse, or suddely when things go sideways. So, if you want to stay in your better halfs good graces, best plan that the inlaws will be part of who you are prepping for.

    • wandakate

With a small farm, and a few animals you’re in better shape than most people, really. The country will be a lot safer than any town or city and the land, animals, a garden and a pond for water is a plus. Good for you. I wish I knew where you are and we would consider coming and helping you. There are 7 of us that are looking for something like that, good people, wanting to help others out…Yes, there are still good people left. wkr

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/David-Webb/100001371414176 David Webb

The problem is not preparation. The problem is government coming in and confiscating everything they want. It is also called nationalize for the common good.
There are laws in place for them to do just that. Obama put them in at least 2 years ago. I think he did it further back than 2 years. It could be an executive order from any number of Presidents in our past that is still in effect years later.

So prepare all you want. The Powers That Be will simply walk in and take anything you have stored for their own use.
So Yes, there is reason to keep any hoarding of survival items secret. Those hoarded items might be worth more than their weight in gold, somewhere down the road.
Anyone that depends on the government should take a real close look at the American Indian and the way they have been cheated consistently by all government over the years.
It is a public thing and has been done over many years by both parties. The amount of fraud going unpunished at the current time is astounding. Never say justice isn’t blind. She isn’t just blind. She is also deaf. How else can you explain what has gone on for a good number of years without any punishment?

I think we are way past time for a reckoning. But if they do have a reckoning, no one in either party will be left unjailed.
Like that is likely to happen to anyone in our lifetimes.
I say prepare for the worst all you want. Just don’t let anyone know. Not your brother, sister, or anyone close to you. Any one of them could go tattling to the local government. And that is just plain sad.

    • Richard Morgan

You have to understand that it wont be fed’s that you have to worry about in the realm of confiscation this will come from local counties, cities and neighbors. Neighborhood “councils”, etc will look at those who they know have done this and become jealousy and the mentality of “best for the masses” will overrule their understanding of fairness, etc. The federal government is not going to dispatch a platoon of Soldiers to go to your house to take your buckets of food, when it gets to the point that they would need to do that, things will be very bad, and they will have alot of things to handle, you will see farms, warehouses and other large scale stores being nationalized, not your home. perhaps in a few cases where loose lips sink ships, but its not feasible to try and go house to house, every house, to see “what” you might have. They may “order” excess food stuffs to be turned in to “help” however, its just not feasible.

I see this argument a lot, the whole “why prepare because theyll just take it anyway” idea…. If you do prepare and by chance it is taken, then you are in the same boat as you would have been if you hadnt. If it isnt taken then you are better off. Why put away money for retirement, you might die in ten years, get hit by a car, etc. Why do anything in a world of if’s? Its circular logic, if i do this theyll take it, so i dont do it. I dont do it ill die, but if i do theyll take it and i die…..

      • Terry Blount

Let me point out that the government will NOT be any help. They TOO will be trying to survive and if you don’t think they will be the biggest looters then explain why they have passed these executive orders:

-EXECUTIVE ORDER 10990 allows the government to take over all
modes of transportation and control of highways and seaports.

-EXECUTIVE ORDER 10995 allows the government to seize and
        control the communication media.

-EXECUTIVE ORDER 10997 allows the government to take over all
electrical power, gas, petroleum, fuels and minerals.

-EXECUTIVE ORDER 10998 allows the government to take over all
        food resources and farms.

-EXECUTIVE ORDER 11000 allows the government to mobilize
civilians into work brigades under government supervision.

-EXECUTIVE ORDER 11001 allows the government to take over all
        health, education and welfare functions.

-EXECUTIVE ORDER 11002 designates the of all persons. Postmaster
General to operate a national registration.

-EXECUTIVE ORDER 11003 allows the government to take over all
airports and aircraft, including commercial aircraft.

-EXECUTIVE ORDER 11004 allows the Housing and Finance Authority
to relocate communities, build new housing with public funds,
designate areas to be abandoned, and establish new locations for
        populations.

-EXECUTIVE ORDER 11005 allows the government to take over
railroads, inland waterways and public storage facilities.

-EXECUTIVE ORDER 11049 assigns emergency preparedness function
to federal departments and agencies, consolidating 21 operative
Executive Orders issued over a fifteen year period.

-EXECUTIVE ORDER 11051 specifies the responsibility of the
Office of Emergency Planning and gives authorization to put all
Executive Orders into effect in times of increased international
tensions and economic or financial crisis.

-EXECUTIVE ORDER 11310 grants authority to the Department of
Justice to enforce the plans set out in Executive Orders, to
institute industrial support, to establish judicial and
legislative liaison, to control all aliens, to operate penal and
correctional institutions, and to advise and assist the
        President.

-EXECUTIVE ORDER 11921 allows the Federal Emergency Preparedness
Agency to develop plans to establish control over the mechanisms
of production and distribution, of energy sources, wages,
salaries, credit and the flow of money in U.S. financial
institution in any undefined national emergency. It also
provides that when a state of emergency is declared by the
President, Congress cannot review the action for six months.

  • Joe (PreppingToSurvive)

We’ve recently begun doing that; it’s a great source of nutrition.

  • El Pollo de Oro

Some folks think preppers are absolutely nuts. They describe preppers as “those gloom and doom people who listen to Alex Jones and Gerald Celente.” Well, I listen to Alex Jones and Gerald Celente on a regular basis, and not only do I not think preppers are nuts—I think they are the sanest people around. There are many different reasons to prep, but two of the top reasons are The Greatest Depression and World War III. Gerald Celente knows what he’s talking about when he says that we are looking at a financial calamity even worse than the Great Depression of the 1930s and a world war that will be even more destructive than the two previous world wars. Between the two, the future will be absolute hell in The Banana Republic of America (formerly Gli Stati Uniti) as well as in Europe.

Polyannas will describe the following statements as “pessimism porn.” I, on the other hand, describe them as a different kind of PP: the Preparedness Perspective. These are warnings that smart people will pay close attention to.

“If they attack Iran, you’re going to see a bloodbath in the Middle East.”—Gerald Celente

“Look what’s going on in Egypt. Look what’s going on in Tunisia. Look what’s going on in Spain as the millions of indignados take to the street. You know my saying as a former Bronx guy: when people lose everything and have nothing left to lose, they lose it. They’re losing it in Greece. They’re losing it in Italy. They’re losing it in Portugal. They’re losing it in Ireland. The world is at war. All the pieces are
    coming together.”—Gerald Celente

“If America becomes this pure tyranny, the world better
look out. If they think we’ve been doing bad stuff so far, look out.”—Alex Jones

“We’re getting ready to face a really big crisis, even bigger than the World War II Generation.”—Alex Jones

“The dollar isn’t just going to go down. It’s going to
    collapse.”–Peter Schiff

“Brace yourself. The American empire is over. And the descent is going to be horrifying.”—Chris Hedges

“The game is over. We lost. The corporate state will continue its inexorable advance until two-thirds of the nation and the planet is locked into a desperate, permanent underclass. Most of us will struggle to make a living while the
Blankfeins and our political elites wallow in the decadence and greed of the Forbidden City and Versailles. These elites do not have a vision. They know only one word: more. They will continue
to exploit the nation, the global economy and the ecosystem. And they will use their money to hide in gated compounds when it all implodes. Do not expect them to take care of us when it starts to unravel. We will have to take care of ourselves. We will have to rapidly create small, monastic communities where we can sustain and feed ourselves. It will be up to us to keep alive the intellectual, moral and
cultural values the corporate state has attempted to snuff out. It is either that or become drones and serfs in a global corporate dystopia. It is not much of a choice. But at least we still have one.”—Chris Hedges

“The United States has collapsed economically, socially, politically, legally, constitutionally, and environmentally.”—Dr. Paul Craig Roberts

“The U.S. currency will probably be devalued the most.”—Max Keiser

“Even these gated communities won’t be safe, because you’re going to see criminality—you’re going to see gangs like you’ve never seen before.”—Gerald Celente

“You can see the world war in front of us. There’s a
war in Yemen, there’s a war in Bahrain, there’s a war in Syria, there’s a war in Libya. Now there’s wars heating up between Turkey and Syria, between Syria and Lebanon…….There’s a war in Spain. There’s class warfare in Spain, millions of indignados taking to the streets. There’s class warfare in Greece. It’s class warfare. There’s class warfare in Portugual. There’s class warfare in
Italy…….So when these corrupt governments start falling, war keeps heating up…….If there’s war in Iran, it will be hell…….This will be a war of weapons of mass destruction. It will be a war of biological warfare. It will be a war of
suitcase-size nuclear weapons……This will be a war where entire cities will be ravaged by weapons of mass destruction, biological warfare, dirty bombs. It will be hell. It will be what Albert Einstein had said: he knew how World War III would be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones.”—Gerald Celente

“Greece, the most extreme case of economic implosion, is showcasing the looming threat. With more than 25% unemployment—twice that among the young—and the complete collapse of the country’s most basic institutions, an openly fascist political party is moving to fill the gap. ‘Golden Dawn’ is quite explicit about its ideological antecedents: their symbol is the Greek version of a swastika.”—Justin Raimondo, AntiWar.com

The blood will flow like rivers in Europe, and it will flow like rivers in The Banana Republic of America. Welcome to Ground Zero in hell.

Michael–I say this with good motives. This site gets very stale with only one article per week, with that one article mainly being recycled from an earlier article on your other sites. CLOSE THIS SITE DOWN and focus on better writing for your other sites. At best this site is redundant and at worst it hurts your other more popular sites.

  • 2Gary2

Its now 2-10-13 and this makes 9 days nothing new. Shut this site down and focus on the economic collapse site

  • 2Gary2

11 days since a update–can we go for a month?

  • Carrie

Yes It would be tough but we would survive. We went a month without power but we had natural gas to cook with and a generator to run the fan for the furnace and we did well for over a month during the ice storm 15 degrees out. It was the perfect end of the world scenerio. No Power, No fuel, no money, Banks down, powerlines down, trees down, it looked like a war zone. Being from Michigan we get up, get bundled up with the kids, get the chainsaw and start digging out, checking on neighbors. After three days it was getting bad and National Guard came out. People were breaking into homes, stealing, killing animals to eat it was crazy and a real wake up call. The animals didn’t know anything was wrong other than we were breaking ice instead of the heaters keeping the troughs free from ice. They still jump when a tree cracks really loud. Water still flowed from gravity towers. I grow gardens, veggies, fruits , berries and have an orchard. We have cattle, dairy goats, sheep , hogs, chickens turkeys etc and an incubator always running. We grow grains as well and hay but if diesel became a problem we would just intensive manage graze with solar charger systems the animals would be slaughtered sooner than later and hope we didn’t have illnesses we couldn’t treat homopathically. We keep six months of meds onhand for ourselves and are getting the elective surgeries now like historectomy, carpel tunnel, lasik. I for one would hate to get pregnant during a time of tribulation. If your handy and you keep your head you will figure out a way. Summer would be the best time for Atlas to Shrug though. People could prepare grow and can , chop wood, build animals shelters, scavenge parts for vehicles, fuel and barter that kind of thing. Once winter hit people would start getting sick so we probably wouldn’t be seeing much of one another. Spring would come and there would be a lot less of us around.

  • Carrie

Oh and even if the government came and took (it all) they would have to go find the rest of it. Good luck to them.

  • Krs One

Doomsday is inevitable. We cannot escape. The TRUTH has told us that not 1 stone will be left in place. We should be prepping to meet The TRUTH as He has explained how to. It’s plain & simple: He is The Way to real life. We have nothing to fear but fear itself, but you know what, perfect love casts fear far into the outer darkness where it came from. Kreesan says: FEAR GOD & you will have nothing else to fear. I love humanity but I don’t love THE WORLD. Whoever loves the world, the love of The Father is not in him… (JESUS, the ONLY Christ).

    • Terry Blount

Yet that didn’t save him. If Jesus couldn’t survive an angry mob then we’ll find it more difficult than expected to survive hords of desperate looters.

  • wandakate

I would think that the “preppers” who are prepared will have it a little easier when things get bad. Imagine the stores without water or food, no medicine at the pharmacy, and no gas at the gas stations. The ones who prepare are the “smart” souls. Most sit back I assume and wait and see, or do nothing. They will most likely be sorry they didn’t prepare when they had the chance. Are things changing, yes? Are the getting worse, yes? Is anything getting any cheaper or less expensive, NO? Preppers are not stupid, SMART is the word. When the average person has nothing, they will be eating a meal. Time is passing fast, yes indeed it is.

    • Terry Blount

The most fundamental, self evident, facts are that the current system is NOT sustainable so there will come a time when the economy and distribution system breaks down. When that happens you will have two choices: 1. Loot 2. be looted
Your chances of survival are MUCH greater if you are NOT in the looter category. Far more looters will be shot (and be instantly killed or die due to lack of medical treatment) than those who are prepared.

  • Angela Azelie

I have been semi prepping…my son and I !!!! We know how to shoot and we have our emergency plans in order. Neither of us have medical issues but we are buying every super antioxidant we can find to boost our immunities. We have up to 6 months of food but we need a better location so we can grow food, etc. I hope that I meet a good partner before this all occurs or we will battle it out alone.

  • Sophie

Noah ~ the greatest prepper.. ever. Say no more.

  • Terry Blount

I would suggest you start with # 35 because it’s the only website I’ve come across that had content written by someone who had ACTUALLY survived a SHTF situation. The rest of the sites I have visited (although they have excellent content) are written based on SPECULATION. Why guess when the facts of a SHTF situation are available?
Ammunition is the VERY HIGHEST priority. It’s the only thing on any list that has THREE ESSENTIAL uses… 1. Protection, 2. Food, 3. Barter
