School Science Project Reveals High Levels Of Fukushima Nuclear Radiation in Grocery Store Seafood

Fukushima Radiation - University Of New South Wales

A Canadian high school student named Bronwyn Delacruz never imagined that her school science project would make headlines all over the world.  But that is precisely what has happened.  Using a $600 Geiger counter purchased by her father, Delacruz measured seafood bought at local grocery stores for radioactive contamination.  What she discovered was absolutely stunning.  Much of the seafood, particularly the products that were made in China, tested very high for radiation.  So is this being caused by nuclear radiation from Fukushima?  Is the seafood that we are eating going to give us cancer and other diseases?  The American people deserve the truth, but as you will see below, the U.S. and Canadian governments are not even testing imported seafood for radiation.  To say that this is deeply troubling would be a massive understatement.

In fact, what prompted Bronwyn Delacruz to conduct her science project was the fact that the Canadian government stopped testing imported seafood for radiation in 2012

Alberta high-school student Bronwyn Delacruz loves sushi, but became concerned last summer after learning how little food inspection actually takes place on some of its key ingredients.

The Grade 10 student from Grande Prairie said she was shocked to discover that, in the wake of the 2011 Fukushima nuclear disaster in Japan, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) stopped testing imported foods for radiation in 2012.

And what should be a major red flag for authorities is the fact that the seafood with the highest radiation is coming from China

Armed with a $600 Geiger counter bought by her dad, Delacruz studied a variety of seafoods – particularly seaweeds – as part of an award-winning science project that she will take to a national fair next month.

“Some of the kelp that I found was higher than what the International Atomic Energy Agency sets as radioactive contamination, which is 1,450 counts over a 10-minute period,” she said. “Some of my samples came up as 1,700 or 1,800.

Delacruz said the samples that “lit up” the most were products from China that she bought in local grocery stores.

It is inexcusable that the Canadian government is not testing this seafood.  It isn’t as if they don’t know that it is radioactive.  Back in 2012, the Vancouver Sun reported that cesium-137 was being found in a very high percentage of the fish that Japan was selling to Canada…

• 73 percent of the mackerel

• 91 percent of the halibut

• 92 percent of the sardines

• 93 percent of the tuna and eel

• 94 percent of the cod and anchovies

• 100 percent of the carp, seaweed, shark and monkfish

So why was radiation testing for seafood shut down in Canada in 2012?

Someone out there needs to answer some very hard questions.

Meanwhile, PBS reporter Miles O’Brien has pointed out the extreme negligence of the U.S. government when it comes to testing seafood for Fukushima radiation.  The following comes from a recent EcoWatch article

O’Brien also introduces us to scientists from the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute who have been testing waters around the reactors—as well as around the Pacific Rim—to confirm the levels of Fukushima fallout, especially of cesium.

These scientists are dedicated and competent. But they are also being forced to do this investigation on their own, raising small amounts of money from independent sources. They were, explains lead scientist Ken Buesseler, turned down for even minimal federal support by five agencies key to our radiation protection. Thus, despite a deep and widespread demand for this information, no federal agency is conducting comprehensive, on-the-ground analyses of how much Fukushima radiation has made its way into our air and oceans.

In fact, very soon after Fukushima began to blow, President Obama assured the world that radiation coming to the U.S. would be minuscule and harmless. He had no scientific proof that this would be the case. And as O’Brien’s eight-minute piece shows all too clearly, the “see no evil, pay no damages” ethos is at work here. The government is doing no monitoring of radiation levels in fish, and information on contamination of the ocean is almost entirely generated by underfunded researchers like Buesseler.

video news report in which O’Brien discusses these issues is posted below…

It is the job of the authorities to keep us safe, and the Fukushima nuclear disaster was the worst nuclear disaster in human history.

So why aren’t they doing testing?

Why aren’t they checking to make sure that this radiation is not getting into our food chain?

The Japanese are doing testing off the coast of Japan, and one fish that was recently caught off the coast of the Fukushima prefecture was discovered to have 124 times the safe level of radioactive cesium.

So why are all the authorities in North America just assuming that the fish are going to be perfectly fine on this side of the Pacific?

One test that was conducted in California discovered that 15 out of 15 Bluefin tuna were contaminated with radiation from Fukushima.

So how can the authorities say “don’t worry, just eat the seafood”?

Everyone agrees that a plume of radioactive water has been moving from Fukushima toward the west coast of the United States.

According to researchers at the University of South Wales, that plume is going to hit our shores at some point during 2014…

The first radioactive ocean plume released by the Fukushima nuclear power plant disaster will finally be reaching the shores of the United States some time in 2014, according to a new study from the University of New South Wales — a full three or so years after the date of the disaster.

The following graphic comes from that study…

Fukushima Radiation - University Of New South Wales

And multiple independent tests have already confirmed that levels of nuclear radiation are being detected on California beaches that are more than 10 times the normal level.

Clearly something is happening.

So why are the U.S. and Canadian governments willingly looking the other way?

My husband and I have wondered if we would get kicked out or else have the authorities called on us if we walked the seafood counter with a meter.

If Bronwyn had submitted such a project in Amerika, they would have suspended her and sent CPS to her parent’s door.

We haven’t eaten seafood in two years and oh, how I miss it!

    • Todd Perry

I was trying to do this here in my state but can not afford a meter or find one to borrow.

      • Michael Mann

Try your local nuclear power plant, county emergency preparedness organization or university, many times they donate older meters when they purchase new ones, Unfortunately without some education you may not be able to interpret the data. Each meter is different and many things are normally radioactive. A standard geiger counter will give only a gross indication of radiation an isotopic analysis would be required. The levels from Fukushima found anywhere outside its immediate area have been extremely low levels..

        • Todd Perry

It does not matter what the levels are. These types of isotopes coming into the US builds up in your body and they never go out. They build up enough and it kills you. Besides if it was not anything to worry about our own US government would not have bought 14 million doeses of Potassium Iodide they admitted was because of Fukashima. They would not have shut down most of the radiation monitoring station on the US West coast and would not have doubled the safety limits of radiation since the leak. They also would not have passed a law that would throw mainstream news media reporters in prison if they mention Fukashima.

          • Leslie Denise Wilson

Amen! More warns to steer clear of all mushrooms and Brazil nuts (among other food items especially and of course seafood) because THESE “soak up cesium and barium etc like a sponge”.

          • Michael Mann

Your information is incorrect, there is no blackout of information from Fukushima. There is also what is known as a biological half-life which is equal to or shorter than the radiological half-life. Potassium Iodide floods the thyroid with non-radioactive iodine to prevent the uptake of radioactive iodine 131 which has a half-life of 8 days, so 80 days after shutdown is pretty much gone. The safety limits have not been doubled again your information is incorrect.

          • Michael Mann

Actually the levels are what IS important, you are exposed to low levels of radiation every day of your life, without harm, high levels of radiation will kill you.

      • Leslie Denise Wilson

I wouldn’t bother to waste my money or time with one for seafood…the ocean is so far down the path now that none of the seafood is safe. None! If determined to grab a meter anyways…be sure to do your research and to also dig deep in your pocket…there is much to know about the meters that read radiation and the low grade priced ones are a total waste of money…go high end or not at all. Read up on them well as a well educated consumer as you would any other big ticket item for purchase. That’s my recommendation after having done the research myself and having learned all about them. There are many out there. Worth having for use regarding many other testing categories – IF YOU know and understand the various ones out there and about them AND if you can afford the chunk to get one worth getting. Best of luck to you and God bless you and all.

    • Leslie Denise Wilson

You are VERY WISE! GOOD for you! :)

    • Michael Mann

Unless you get your seafood from the Fukushima harbor, you have no reason to fear the radioactivity of seafood, mercury is more likely to be a problem, but even that is a very very low probability. http://www.fda.gov/NewsEvents/PublicHealthFocus/ucm247403.htm
“Evaluation of Radiation Doses and Associated Risk from the Fukushima Nuclear Accident to Marine Biota and Human Consumers of Seafood,” published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, that the likely doses of radioactivity ingested by humans consuming the contaminated fish, even in large quantities, is comparable to, or less than, the radiological dosages associated with other commonly consumed foods, many medical treatments, air travel and other background sources. The authors also conclude that contamination of Pacific bluefin tuna and other marine animals from Fukushima poses little risk to these animals. http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2013/06/130603183103.htm

Pray over you food, in Jesus’ Name!!!

    • Charles Reece

      The Great Commission

      Matthew 28:17-20 [KJV]

17And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; 18They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.

Notice in v.18, that even the deadly poisons from serpents cannot “hurt” those who “believe” in Christ. How much more that would include the Lord NOT allowing radio-activated food from killing HIs own people!!

      • michael ferrel

That would be great if those people on the east coast hadn’t died from those snake bites a few years back.

Hows your faith? Mine not so strong. I’m going to avoid fish.

Charles they could use people like you right now in Japan. You could gather like-minded believers together on a mission to Fukashima to fight the growing threat to the world. You guys would be like a bunch of Daniels in the fiery furnace without getting burned. Then the world would know that God is on your side.

My faith is not so strong but I would pray for your success.

      • Kim

This comment got five up votes? Oookay. Don’t know what bible he’s reading from…

I enjoy Michael’s blogs and I enjoy participating, but lately I am reading the nuttiest comments. I think I need a break.

Go ahead, pray over your radio “activated” food.

        Lol.

  • K

So why are the U.S. and Canadian governments willingly looking the other way? There are two reasons. 1. They will not interfere with the big seafood companies, making a buck. 2. They would just as soon, quite a few of us would die. Evil has not overtaken all the people of the U.S. But it has over taken the Government. I doubt you could find 10 just men in D.C.

    • MichaelfromTheEconomicCollapse

      Very good points K.

      Michael

    • cybervigilante

Because Japan is a huge ally against China, and the US is going nuts over the Chinese “threat.” So no bad news about Japan is going to get out if they can help it.

    • Kim

It’s not just about the seafood companies. It’s also about the money made from nuclear energy. They don’t really want us to know that this type of energy isn’t all that safe after all.

      • K

        Very true.

      • Eric Quintero

Our future generations are going to hate us for burying all this crap.

I just wonder…what will happen when the plates shift again?

But we may not have to wait that long. A number of disposal sites that were deemed safe by science have been shown to be leaking.

        • Michael Mann

Yes, it would be stupid to bury all this valuable once used fuel, when it still contains over 90% usable fuel.

          • Kim

True, the military industrial complex would like to use all that plutonium to make bombs.

          • Michael Mann

The plutonium from commercial reactors is pretty much worthless for bombs, to make that statement shows an incredible lack of understanding. It could however provide energy to provide a prosperous future for the human race for the foreseeable future with less damage to the environment.

          • Jo Brown

Plutonium from reactors would still be useful for “dirty bombs”. These are devices that explode to spread radioactive contaminants into the surrounding area. Not to destroy buildings or incinerate people instantly, but to kill them slowly with radiation.

          • Michael Mann

Except for the fact that there are much easier ways to get material for a “dirty bomb” which in actuality would be unlikely to kill anyone with radiation and much more likely to cause major injury due to fear which is a terrorists intention in the first place… If a dirty bomb speads contamination very far, the dose is less likely to hurt anyone, if it stays concentrated it is easier to isolate and prevent exposure. The irrational fear of radiation is the only thing that makes it dangerous.

          • Michael Mann

Yes, insidiously kill them 80 years down the road… and make it look like natural causes at 110 years of age…what an evil plot….

        • joe_bob_gonzales

assuming there is anyone left to consider that.

    • Eric Dillon

Or maybe because this is nothing but a bunch of fearmongering.

      • Kim

        Another nuclear energy shill. ^^^

        • K

Worse, I suspect he is employed, in the nuclear industry. They were always a bunch of cheerleaders. So enthralled by the idea of nuclear power, and their own abilities. They never allowed for the worse case situation. Now that they have it, they are just in denial. Scientists are mostly the same. They only ask the first question, can we do this thing? They never ask the second question, should we do this thing?

          • Kim

He claims to be, but he doesn’t know a lot about certain types of radiation.

          • K

Oh, maybe he is one of those TVA nuclear engineers. Met a few of them, before I retired. Scary group, when it came to handling their job. Their answer for everything was, with all the backups, nothing can really go wrong. Yeah right.

          • Kim

K, scroll down and read his other posts. See how smart these guys think they are compared to how uninformed they actually are.

          • K

            I see your point.

          • Njp Thompson

narrow thinking always causes problems with philosophy, and scientists are the most narrow-minded thinkers in many respects.

          • K2

What makes you think he is a scientist?

          • joe_bob_gonzales

exactly. that it can be done does not mean it should be done. and even if the scientists had any ethical boundaries, I am for damned sure the politicians and other so called “leaders” fer shure don’t. if they got a toy, they will want to use it just to see what happens.

        • Michael Mann

Very convenient, anyone with actual knowledge must be a “shill” …. Remember that when you or a loved one is sick, don’t go to a doctor, they are enamored to medicine and are part of the medical industry (medical shill) and not to be trusted… There is a reason people with first hand knowledge are pro-nuclear. Don’t be such a gullible person….

          • Kim

What passes for knowledge by the nuclear energy apologists here is scary.

          • K

Now this one is a shill. Every comment he has ever posted, on any board is pro-nuclear. One sign of a shill, they only post on one topic. I love the one about, how all of us are already radioactive. Yes, and most of us have trace amounts of arsenic in our system. That does not mean we should go out and eat a pound of arsenic. Kim they really crawl out of the woodwork, with the mention of Fukashima.

          • Kim

Yup. Probably plants from the government. They infiltrate websites like this to sway public thinking.

          • Michael Mann

To be sure ,I once worked for the government as a reactor operator and technician on submarines.. I have been a technician in the private sector for 26 years. The misinformation you put out is disappointing, the fact you are unwilling to learn even more so…If your auto mechanic told you something about your car would you call him a shill and ignore his advice? Why do you make such silly statements?

          • K

Let me see. nuclear power has been your entire life You never post an opinion on any other topic. Now if I believe that. Then your opinion is highly biased. But being such an expert, I am sure you must be familiar, with the problems at the Port Saint Luce plant. So in your expert opinion, how would you fix it?

          • Michael Mann

What problem at Port St. Lucie? Is that the plant you meant?, I have only been there once. a few years ago. As I said I am a technician, would you ask your auto mechanic to redesign a Porche or a Ford 250? I post on things I know, unlike you who seems to post on things you don’t quite understand.,.

          • K

Yes that is the one. I spelled it the long way to mess up your google search. In the industry the problem is well known. Have a nice day.

          • Michael Mann

Leaving the “i” out is the long way? Are you kidding me? Crystal River had the delamination problem, not St. Lucie, are you trying to be funny or just incompetent?

          • Michael Mann

You have a nice day yourself… Just quit posting about things you don’t know. The anxiety these misinformation blurbs cause actually can hurt people, if anyone actually believes them.

          • Michael Mann

You say biased, I say informed,.You get your information from conspiracy and anti-nuclear websites, I get my information from institutions of higher learning, professional organizations and first hand experience. I think maybe you have difficulty discerning the more credible information.

          • Michael Mann

Since there is no major problem with St. Lucie, the restart is continuing as normal despite idiotic allegations that they have similar S/G issues to SONGS. (Different S/G design and manufaturer) The anti-nuclear community is grasping at straws. Have a nice Day!

          • Guest

Michael Mann admits to being a shill.

          • Michael Mann

Where? Let me be clear Michael Mann has NEVER been paid to post, I am posting my own opinion as a knowledgeable citizen with over 30 years hands on experience as a radiation worker. I don’t know your definition of “shill” but Michael Mann is NOT a “shill” per the English language. Of course someone who doesn’t even have the gumption to put a name on their post has no credibility anyway. why do you think someone with no knowledge should be listened to instead of someone with experience and training. I am eagerly awaiting your reply!

          • Michael Mann

What is scary is your lack of knowledge backed up by your lack of trying to educate yourself, instead you lash out at people trying to help. There is a cure for ignorance it is called education, try it sometime.

      • John

Ya that must be it, fearmongering, There never was any earth quake, and no tsunami that hit Japan, All the people online and around the world are just haters of the Japanese because of that show “Whale Wars” Poor Japanese are only taking 1000 whales a year, why are we all making them look bad with this propaganda and “Fearmongering” over something that never happened? Come on, Stop talking about the poor nuclear agency and stop fearmongering, Tepco said there was no problem, stop hating!

    • Leslie Denise Wilson

Nuclear Physics Expert who spoke before the UN panel as an EXPERT WITNESS on behalf of Fukushima radiation and who lead the team of nuclear expert researchers of Chernobyl (read the continued list of credencials also available on Wikipedia) speaks also via YouTube and condemns the “INTENTIONAL” “COVER-UP” re: Fukushima Radiation Deadly contamination of our foods. Look her and her speeches and interviews and statements up online and on YouTube. The nations and specifically the American Govt DOESNT WANT US TO KNOW THE TRUTH! SEE AGENDA21 AND NDAA AND GEORGIA GUIDESTONES AND OBAMA RECENT SPEACH BEFORE THE UNITED NATIONS ! THERE IS MOST CERTAINLY….A GLOBAL NWO DEPOPULATION AGENDA. TO IGNORE THIS FACT IS TO LOVE IGNORANCE. WAKE UP THE WORLD!!!

      • Michael Mann

What was the name and who made him an “expert”? The first tip off is your failure to name this “expert” the second is your conspiracy theory, Does it sense that every reputable scientist and engineer is involved in some kind of global conspiracy or “paid off”?

        • Leslie Denise Wilson

Leoren Moret is the name of the expert I referenced above. She is NOT alone in her EVIDENCE the the FACT that there IS a “coverup” existing to hide the truth of the severity of the situation re : Fukushima Radiation. She is also a nuclear Physicist. There are MANY MANY OTHERS WHO AGREE WITH HER based on their own knowledge and evidence. Enough of this devaluation term “conspiracy theory”…it is one of ignorance. Check out her credentials. Check out her interviews and lectures via YouTube..while you are at it…research Ted L. Gunderson…former director of FBI…who screamed CONSPIRACY/ COVERUP and then was murdered (among many) by poisoning for speaking out and for exposing the truth about chemtrails. MY GOD…WAKE UP DUDE!

          • Leslie Denise Wilson

PS: Go alittle further and check out GEORGIA GUIDESTONES AND *SEE* them for yourself. Bypass the ones that try to lie and cover coverup the fact that the Georgia Guide stones are real, with their misinformation and disinformation..HUNT THE GEORGIA GUIDESTONES UP ON YOUTUBE SEARCH…don’t give up til you actually SEE THEM…THE VIDEOS ARE THERE FOR YOU TO SEE….THEN…along with that….look up and read AGENDA 21 AND THE NDAA. If you do…you will most likely discover a whole new world exists of evil that you didn’t and couldn’t see before. Best wishes on your new journey out of slumber and into the light. God bless!

          • Michael Mann

PLease LOOK at Leoren Moret’s qualifications,What exactly is a “Geoscientist”/ She has no engineering background, no Health Physics education, please look at the bunk she puts out, she is not an “expert” in any sense of the word, Less than zero credibility.

          • Leslie Denise Wilson

Thank you but I HAVE DONE THAT on Dr Moret…as I have already mentioned….Geoscientist yes…among other titles she holds. Apparently the UN does not dismiss her or what she has to say on the matter…as you attempt to do here today. THEY REQUESTED HER as an EXPERT WITNESS TO TESTIFY UNDER OATH – OVER YOU, ‘Mr nuke genius’. Your attempt to disqualify her is NOT working with me…perhaps others in this room…but not me…I have performed thorough research on Dr L. More. She remains active “on the inside” of Chernobyl and Fukushima to date. Perhaps you would do the same and attempt to disqualifyexpert Dr Caldicort who is in total agreement with Dr. more and who presented her own evidence during her speech which put her life in danger with an attempt against her life and death threats against her as well as More…for speaking the truth about the true proportion of the Fukushima radiation danger and “”CONSPIRACY” TO “COVER UP” THE TRUTH. Everyday more and more truth comes out on Fukushima radiation and how it is now an epidemic hazard to the entire globe of humanity. There are countless other top leading experts who are also standing beside More and Caldecort including top govt officials and top military personnel. Your comments hold absolutely no weight with me. I HAVE DONE AND CONTINUE TO DO MY HOMEWORK. I smell a ‘RAT’ Mann. I bet if I did research on you I would find dirty affiliations and connections to you…perhaps even to Gates and his depopulation agenda presented extensively and openly during his many lectures?? How much are you getting paid to take the opposing view to discredit the above into? As for me…I am not getting paid for my statements here. My only claim to fame here is being an extremely well educated and concerned citizen of humanity WHO CANNOT BE DUPED.

          • Michael Mann

911 New World Order, Flight MH370 destroyed by particle beam weapons by the USA as a message to Putin, depopulation theories? These are a few of her areas of expertise. Really, you believe all her bunk? I know for sure her understanding of radiation health effects is not correct..

          • Leslie Denise Wilson

Oh so now you are attempting to further your smear campaign against Dr. Leoren Moret with more of your deception and distortions and even false accusations. You are not only a dirty RAT but you are also EVIL. You now attempt to pull off that the NEW WORLD ORDER doesn’t exist…well IT IS A FACT THAT THERE IS SUCH A THING AS THE NEW WORLD ORDER AND IT WAS ACTUALLY SIGNED INTO EXISTENCE BACK IN 2009/2010 BY OBAMA HIMSELF and at the same time Obama also signed into existence his INTL. PARLIAMENT OF RELIGIOUS AFFAIRS which Obama personally named and personally appointed each member of ther cabinet to represent every religion on earth. I watched him sign them into documented FACT. I also both tweeted the announcement and video footage as well as posted it on Facebook and emailed it to all my email recipients. Both bush Sr and Bush Jr mentioned the NEW WORLD ORDER during their speeches…as well as countless others. Anyone can just pop that phrase into any search engine and be instantly handed PAGES AND PAGES UPON PAGES of FACTUAL EVIDENCE THAT IT EXISTS. There is even a mapping available of the NEW WORLD ORDER online and on GOVT websites that show that the entire globe is now divided up into 10 nations states and AMERICA now bring THE NORTH AMERICAN UNION which this fact was discussed with a delivery of fervent disgust and anger over it being so….RIGHT ON THE HOUSE FLOOR WHILE IN SESSION! As for 911 explain why 3 buildings were THERMONUCLEAR BLASTED into rubble which was never reported and all those witnesses who spoke up to tell about it have ALL BEEN MURDERED.? Why numerous firemen reported bomb explosions going off at lower levels as well as are clearly seen on video ffootage and POINT AFTER POINT AFTER POINT OF ENDLESS EVIDENCE PROVES THOSE TOWERS DID NOT COME DOWN AS RESULT OF THE AIRPLANES FLUID. I thought I smelled a rat…now I KNOW THERE IS ONE IN THIS ROOM. You should proceed with caution when SLANDERING Dr. Moret’s good name and highly esteemed reputation. Again…you do.NOT fool me with all your contemptable deceptive falsehoods. I HAVE RESEARCHED THOUSANDS OF TOPICS TO EXTREME DEPTH. The EVIDENCE I and others like me , have recovered would hold up in a court of law. Everything is fully documented. I do not fall prey to contempable corrupt attempts to cover up that which I KNOW TO BE PROVEN TRUE. Your TACTICS are TRANSPARENT M. Mann. By your OWN mouth you are herein exposed with a biased alterior motive and a mouth that utters despicable deceptions. I don’t know how you can live with yourself. Despicable!

          • Michael Mann

What? That rant did not even make sense.. My only motive is for a better world, better for people and the environment, period.

          • Leslie Denise Wilson

Tell us Mr Mann…just WHO is the REAL conspiracy theorist here. Even JFK openly proclaimed to all of America of the existence of “CONSPIRATORS. I say YOU are on THEIR team. Good day.

          • Michael Mann

Please try some main stream credible education on basic health physics and ignore these charletans I hope you haven’t donated money to these people. I do feel sorry for you. I hope you get better.

        • Leslie Denise Wilson

BTW…”Tip off” ???…it is called innocent “oversight” Mann. (Punt intended!).

  • DJohn1

We owe, we owe, so much money we owe to guess WHO?
Of course, the FDA is not bribed. No one wants to go there.
Just like they didn’t go there over diet drinks and lab sweetners. It is just a coincidence that the guy in charge of the 50s FDA became an officer in the soda pop industry after nutrasweet was okayed for use.
After he left the FDA of course he was approached by the Soda Pop industry.
Might want to investigate just who gives orders on things like this.
Who gains if everyone gets cancer from radioactive fish?
Seems to be the same usual suspects . . .

I’m thinking about fish farming. The Urban Farming Guys on youtube have some good sustainable ideas, and I know my chickens would love it, too. Probably not so much for deep sea minerals in the fish, but at least I would know what is going into it.

  • westernwoman.wordpress.com

Cilantro. It is almost planting time, and we could all benefit from cilantro, whether or not we have mercury or radiation poisoning. Cilantro is easy to grow in the garden or a planter in the window. (I have about as many rabbit trails for you as I have rabbits :P ) Every food item we produce ourselves is an act of reclaiming stewardship over the land God gave us.

Those people working behind the counters in those grocery stores must all have cancer by now…
it’s not just the people eating it who will die of cancer! It’s also the people being constantly radiated who will get it! They will even be a lot worse off!!!!

    • Kim

Can you imagine living in Japan?

  • Mark

Radiation also contaminates all the surrounding food products!
So everything you buy in a store where they sell Chinese seafood is radiated!!

    • Kim

That is true. Not just surrounding product, but surrounding humans.

      • Steve Hall

Not true, you must consume the contaminate food to be affected.

        • Kim

Only if it is alpha particles. Beta particles can penetrate the skin. Gamma and neutron, well, let’s not talk about that, ok?

Fukushima Daiichi is releasing multiple types of radionuclides into the environment. Since no one is testing (except grade school kids) we don’t really know what we’re dealing with.

Cesium 137 is a beta emission. U certainly DO NOT have to eat it to die from exposure to it. See the Brazil, Goiania incident.

          • Eric Dillon

Sorry, Kim, but you DO have to consume a Beta emitter to have ANY effect. You can hold it in your hand (as long as you have intact skin) and it DOES NOTHING.

PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD EDUCATE YOURSELF ON THIS.

For the record, I am a qualified nuclear power plant instructor, not just some schlub living in his mommies basement.

          • Kim

            Nope. You’re wrong.

Beta particles are able to penetrate living matter to a certain extent and can change the structure of struck molecules. In most cases such change can be considered as damage with results possibly as severe as cancer and death. If the struck molecule is DNA it can show a spontaneous mutation.
Beta sources can be used in radiation therapy to kill cancer cells.

          • Eric Dillon

Sorry, your arrogance caused me to slip a tooth in my mental apparatus.
You are correct, Beta can penetrate skin, but not clothing. My mistake.
See, grownups admit when they are wrong.

          • Kim

How grown up of u. :-) )) no harm. Thanks, take care.

          • Eric Quintero

            Are you Homer Simpson? :P

Im pretty embarrassed for you. Its your life profession… You’re an “instructor??” wow.

Who the hell is running our power plants?

          • Kim

He is. From his “mommies” basement.

          • Steve Struthers

This isn’t exactly correct. If beta-emitting particles land on your skin, or you handle a strong beta emitting substance, you can burn your skin.

Handling alpha emitters is safe, provided you don’t ingest what you are handling.

          • Kim

Or get it in your eyes.

          • jaxon64

You have been holding Beta emitting radioactive materials in your hands unprotected? Maybe you shouldn’t be holding that little girl on your shoulder unless you are wearing gloves! I didn’t want to go there but if you are an instructor and handle active materials without proper safeguarding and then are handling small children–maybe the authorities need to be contacted.

    • Steve Hall

Sorry, that is not how it works. The radioactive particles must be in the material (food) to be contaminated. Radiation is all around us and does not contaminate. Radioactive material is the contamination. You are being irradiated by the sun, the cosmic radiation that is throughout the universe. I don’t doubt there is contamination in Pacific seafood but its not like a rod of enriched uranium sitting on a grocery store shelf.

      • Kim

The sun does not emit IONIZING radiation. Cesium 137 DOES NOT occur naturally. Like plutonium, it is 100% man-made.

Are u a shill for the nuclear energy industry?

You do not know that our seafood (and everything else since cesium 137 settles in plant life, water and can be airborne) is or is not contaminated beta radiation.

        • Eric Dillon

Are you that effing stupid? What do you think causes sunburn? It is IONIZING radiation emitted by the sun.

          • Kim

UV Causes sunburns. Ionizing radiation from UV is filtered out by ozone. Time to double check your information again. Ionizing radiation from the sun does not reach the earth.

          • jaxon64

There is no way that you are actually an instructor about Nuclear elements and safe handling–you appear to know nothing about basic chemistry. I doubt you even know what isotopes, ionizationation, orbital decay of said radioactive isotopes is factored and graphed or how changing polarities of man-made vs natural elements differs…wow, misinformation much?

        • Michael Mann

You seem to have difficulty with some terms “contaminated beta radiation” is nonsense. Something is contaminated by radioactive material, which may or may not give off beta radiation depending upon its decay chain. Contamination is simply material where it should not be. Radiation is the particle or wave given off. The Sun emits lots of ionizing radiation and some of it reaches Earth, which seems to be another misconception. Cosmic rays are extremely energetic particles, primarily protons, which originate in the sun, other stars and from violent cataclysms in the far reaches of space. Cosmic ray particles interact with the upper atmosphere of the earth and produce showers of lower energy particles. Many of these lower energy particles are absorbed by the earth’s atmosphere. At sea level, cosmic radiation is composed mainly of muons, with some gamma-rays, neutrons and electrons.
Because the earth’s atmosphere acts as a shield, the exposure of an individual to cosmic rays is greater at higher elevations than at sea level. For example, the annual dose from cosmic radiation in Denver is 50 millirem while the annual dose at sea level is 26 millirem.

I wanted to buy a geiger counter to test the produce at Costco from California, now I know I’m not off the mark!!!

  • Jason7189

When has this ever happened in Human History?…..it hasn’t, This is a future event and it’s happening now. It’s not taken out of context either. These 3 Prophets described future events, when God’s wrath will be upon the Earth for the increase of wickedness.

Hosea 4:3 “3 Therefore the land will mourn; And everyone who dwells there will waste away With the beasts of the field. And the birds of the air; Even the fish of the sea will be taken away.”

Zephaniah 1:3 “I will consume man and beast; I will consume the birds of the heavens, The fish of the sea, And the stumbling blocks along with the wicked. I will cut off man from the face of the land,” Says the Lord.”

Ezekiel 38:20 “So that the fish of the sea, the birds of the heavens, the beasts of the field, all creeping things that creep on the earth, and all men who are on the face of the earth shall shake at My presence. The mountains shall be thrown down, the steep places shall fall, and every wall shall fall to the ground.”

  • Kim

I browsed the seafood section at the store a few days ago. The farmed fish I saw had disclaimers on its price labels: artificial color added. Lol. I’ll pass on that, thanks. And I’ll pass on all the other fish and seafood too. Anyone up in the pacific northwest, don’t rely on anything fished out of the Columbia River downstream from Richland. We have our own problems here. Hanford nuclear dump is leaking too. It’s a mess.

Fukushima Daiichi is not going away. TEPCO has shut down ( restarted and shut down again) its filtering system indefinitely due to multiple malfunctions. Meanwhile, the collection of already-filtered water has been re-contaminated. How much of that water?- do you ask? All of it. Their newest, most brilliant solution yet: toss the entire mess into the Pacific.

Has anyone heard whether TEPCO has extracted anymore fuel rods from the cooling pool(s)?

    • jax462

Great posts on this thread Kim–and way to put the shills in their place with facts. As for eating store bought seafood? I am done with it also. Luckily I live a few minutes from the Chesapeake Bay and can be out on the water catching a frsh Rockfish ( striped bass to non-marylanders), yellow or white perch, flounder, sea trout etc etc…my freezer always has an abundance of safe, healthy fish which I caught myself…
I’m truly saddened and praying for those waterman on the west coast and in japan whose families depended on clean, safe waters to harvest from and feed their families and communities…we need to keep the little people who are affected in our thoughts and prayers.

      • Kim

        Thanks.

Yes, it is very sad. And outrageous and horrifying.

  • franktrades

    Implausable.

  • titorite

We should not eat the fish.

  • coffeedrinker

So why are the U.S. and Canadian governments willingly looking the other way?
    Because money comes first-people second.
Japan and especially China are buying our debt. China holds a lot of US debt and can use the threat of dumping the US debt as a lever against the US; if you don’t let us sell you this cheap worthless radioactive contaminated fish then we might stop buying your debt–we may even start dumping (selling) your debt and trigger hyper-inflation.
The American people (ranked second in importance) are being used by the US government as disposable piggy banks to transfer their dollars (via Costco’s radioactive fish department). The already sick (or soon to be sick) people (having consumed radioactive fish) are then used to further transfer any remaining wealth to the pharmaceutical and medical communities as victims wither away from radioactive contamination-poisoning.
Who will be left to dispose of the withered away radioactive American corpses?

    • Eric Quintero

Im sure they love the idea of profiting from the culling.

  • Kim

The reason why they aren’t testing can really be summed up in one word: money. Japan wants to restart what is left of its nuclear power operations. Ironically, TEPCO wants to restart Fukushima Daiichi reactors 5 and 6 to pay for the clean up of 1,2,3,4, which, in terms of dollars, has surpassed what it has cost to rebuild the Philippine Islands. With the failure of Abenomics, Japan is dying on the vine. All roads lead to money.

The goal is to kill off at least 80 percent of the worlds population of humans. Radiation is simply another easy way of accomplishing this.

  • georgehenry

I stopped eating all fish from the Pacific right after Fukushima and I certainly wouldn’t eat any Japanese food, sad to say. I’m even worried about purchasing a Japanese car, thinking that some of the metals or other materials in it are radioactive now. This is a terrible disaster.

  • trigon400

Went to a big neighborhood party Friday night.
They had a HUGE sushi boat, probably 75 lbs, it was totally gone by the end of the night!
NONE of it went in my mouth.

  • trigon400

You can bank on the fact that the US government will ignore this radiation, even if people are dropping dead by the hour in CA,WA,AK,OR.
Don’t even eat canned tuna (Starkist, Bumblebee) since probably half is caught in the Pacific.

  • http://www.cryptome.org sunray091

Who are we kidding? THEY KNOW thats why they are not testing, its time to SUE the Government when KIDS get results like this.
Its time to change the government.

  • Gar

“So why are the U.S. and Canadian governments willingly looking the other way?”

So why don’t private companies measure the radiation levels, why leave it to the government? Or concerned citizens should be doing it, it’s not very difficult. One reading from one fish is not sufficient to say that all seafood is radioactive, and even then, the level detected was still very small.

  • Michael Mann

A couple things, first, most food if not all food is radioactive, just as you are and always have been. A $600 geiger counter

    • Kim

That you bring up the fact that some foods (not all foods) have very lows levels of natural radioisotopes, just serves to distort the true risk assessment associated with toxic man-made radio isotopes that the human body cannot process.

Furthermore, there an enormous variation in the risks associated with swallowing the same amount of different radioactive materials, and even some difference between the same dose, of the same material, but in different chemical forms.

      • Michael Mann

If you look hard enough you will find most living things absorb carbon 14 a radioactive element with a long half-life, look up carbon dating sometime…

  • DaMurph

Michael, thanks for that information, but you know many many people will choose to believe in a cover-up rather than the truth.

    • Kim

The only ones covering up the truth is the Japanese government in collusion with TEPCO. And the nuclear apologists. I don’t worry about them but to the extent that they think handling beta ray emitting material is just fine!!! Malinformation is one thing. But spreading that big load of crapola can be dangerous.

  • Kim

Bananas contain extremely low levels of potassium 40. If some food product registered on a Geiger counter, and there weren’t a couple very ripe dump truck loads of bananas a few feet away, I would have to assume some other radioisotope were causing the register. Nuclear apologists always bring up the banana to downplay the fact that our environment is polluted by various man made radioisotopes. That fact is, so called “background” radiation did not exist prior to the advent of nuclear testing.

  • Kim

    Lol.

  • Kim

Thanks for editorializing. We are waiting for you mention something with actual substance rather than your conclusions. Everyone has conclusions.

  • James Conca

A geiger counter can’t measure what’s from Fukushima. She was just seeing normal levels of rad in food, that people don’t understand is in our everyday lives. Now if she’d used a alpha spec and liquid-liquid extraction, that would be different.

  • w kennedy

    Years
after the nuclear testing in the 50s it came out that the dust clouds
allowed the region of Ontario we were in 56-7 to have radioactive dust
on the spring leaf clean up. I got sores on face mostly under my ears I
was only 10 and thought I had Acne. Mom was a nurse and still assumed I
had measles put me in a dark room so I wouldn’t go blind as measles are
supposed to weaken eyes enough to have some go blind…Measles maybe???
Last major[Canadian 3000 count] outbreak was 86 same year as Chernobyl
now that Japanese dust has recently officially been recorded in BC
    They have a “measles outbreak

  • seadoc

As a former public affairs officer in the Bureau of Oceans, Environment of Science in the US State Department during SecState Powell’s tenure, I am appalled at the utter silence of our government regarding this horrific poison affecting our ocean’s sea life. Each one of us must collectively stop digesting any food product from the sea, until we know for certain that this radiation that continues to pour into the sea is stopped forever… It is our collective pocket books that will change the politicians cowardice toward action…

  • insignia37

It’s called population control. I’m sure Ted Turner and Bill Gates are not eating any fish from the Pacific. It’s a very convenient disaster for the “superior ones”. And now they’re going to release even more radioactive pollution in to the ocean.

  • abinico

This is NOT what science fairs are supposed to be. This is nothing more than a report – it supposed to be a science fair, not a reporter fair. There is no hypothesis, no experiment here – just a report – this is NOT science.

    • joe_bob_gonzales

well, lets see, lets stick to the facts. 1. one Geiger counter.
      2. a few fish. 3. geiger goes off on a ticking frenzy.

maybe its not science, but its enough to concern me. and while not a scientist, I am not (and have not for a couple of years) buying any food from china or asia, nothing from japan, and no fish from the pacific. it may be that I am just a gullible fellow, but I will buy what fish I buy from southern hemisphere waters such as Hake. as my jewish friends say: it couldn’t hoit.

sure, there could be some other issues, but…..what do the “real” scientists say? what? not much. why? their funding comes from the govt. and we know how honest and truth full the government has been with us these last few decades. right?

  • Todd Perry

  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RdLrXPnp0zs Menachem Mevashir

They look the other way because that’s what the nuke industry pays them to do. The US is responsible for the Fukushima catastrophe. We pushed reactors on seismically unstable Japan and sold them crappy Westinghouse reactors devoid of safety features. The US is the culprit here. The US government is committed to both nuclear power and nuclear weapons proliferation and will do everything possible to deceive the public into ignoring the clear and present danger.

  • Krim

Excuse me, but since when is nuclear contamination measured as in “counts in 10 minutes”? I call BS here.

    • Michael Mann

The numbers look scarier when counted for 10 minutes 170-180 CPM is normal background in many parts of the country, depending upon the meter, probe and location.

  • Leslie Denise Wilson

May I remind you Michael Mann…your statements are forever recorded here. You can BE SURE your sins WILL find you out! Everything that is HIDDEN – WILL ONE DAY BE EXPOSED in the light and brought out into the OPEN for all to see. Even if it is pride, arrogancy or the evil way…of what manner it is…that includes ignorance and deception. Shalom.

    • Michael Mann

I’m sorry you are so gullible to believe the fear mongering. I hope your anxiety levels do not cause you illness, you choose to live in fear and ignorance. My conscience is clear, I attempted to educate you. If you ever want to learn about radiation.

    • Michael Faust

Well said, those who decieve and harm the average citizen with lies about radiation being safe, should be put in jail

  • Leslie Denise Wilson

I may be blond…but I SURE was NOT born yesterday!

    • Michael Mann

You seem to be pretty gullible if you buy all this anti-nuclear, radiophobic malarky.

  • Michael Faust

Michael Mann is a paid pimp of the nuclear industrial complex

    • Michael Mann

How exactly? The same way your mechanic is a paid pimp to the auto industry? Is everyone with a job a paid pimp? Are only people with no actual experience allowed to comment? That is convenient to those who are trying to control others with fear and promulgate their propaganda without those pesky little things called facts getting in the way…

    • Guest

      Amen.

  • Michael Faust

hey Mann, we don’t have fear of radiation, we have hatred of radiation.

    • Michael Mann

You then hate yourself as you too are radioactive… very sad…
