IF THERE IS SO MUCH SHORTAGE OF DOCTORS WHY IS IT THAT THE RESIDENCY PROGRAMS DENY POSITIONS TO QUALIFIED APPLICANTS. THEY MAKE THEIR OWN RULES TO DENY POSITIONS TO DESERVING CANDIDATES.,AND SAY WE HAVE OVERSUPPLY OF DOCTOR CANDIDATES..
ECFMG CERTIFIED US CITIZENS HAVE BEEN WAITING 10-15YEARS,APPLYING YEARLY WITHOUT GETTING A POSITION. EITHER THE GOVT AND PUBLIC IS NOT AWARE OF THIS SITUATION,WHEN THEY CRY WE HAVE A SHORT SUPPLY OF DOCTORS.

This article is stupid sensationList garbage citing inaccurate sources and hysteria filled one-liners. This article doesn’t even give Amy reasoning as to why the new healthcare bill will cause doctor shortages… it just throws out a whole bunch of numbers designed to scare the susceptible reader. Horrible article… especially with its agenda fueled ending… “If we are not careful, we are going to destroy what was once the greatest health care system in the world.”
Really? With millions who didn’t have or couldn’t afford even the most basic insurance coverage? With big pharma making whopping 4000% mark up on the drugs they sell? Crap article.

I’m sure some of the doctors who filled out these surveys aren’t happy with the bill, but are they REALLY going to quit their high paying jobs because they don’t like one law? Please. Have you looked at the economy lately? Or the high unemployment rates? Do you really believe ANY of these doctors will all suddenly move to Europe or Canada to continue their practices, or suddenly start flipping burgers in the US?

I don’t think so.

Canada constantly loses its doctors because they make on average about 50-100k more down south, AND they are taxed less. So you REALLY think there will be mass exodus from the practice in the US because of some law? It sounds completely unrealistic. Even if 1% of hardcore republican doctors decide to quit their jobs, where do you suggest they go? These guys love their country way too much to go elsewhere.

I am more concerned about nurse practitioners pretending that they have the same training as a doctor and now using Dr before they are name. Perhaps we can have the guy from the holiday Inn do your surgery after all!

The amount of training to do stuff is becoming less and less…the consequences of this will hit us hard

i wonder how the liberals that voted for this health care bill sleep at night.

somehow they think it is perfectly reasonable to rape the 3rd world of their talented, educated class so that there are enough doctors and nurses here in the united states…not too much concern for the health of the 3rd world.

but then, that fits with the mentality of having ‘safe injection sites’ so that drug addicts can inject themselves with toxic materials because it is “safe”.

i guess logic isn’t their strong point.

That survey was reported on not published by the NEJM. Being published by them requires the survey to be peer reviewed, being reported requires it only be newsworthy. Reading the methodology of the study is has numerous problems the biggest being:
1. The sample wasn’t truly random.
2. There are no control questions.

Impressive. Whats scary is that you are getting “Doctors” who would like to come over from other countries to fill the void. The comment above mine should make that clear. Of course I could never trust a doctor who abused the caps lock button. Wouldn’t be prudent.

If doctors do leave because of the new health care plan it won’t be evenly across the US. I would think doctors who are more politically conservative would be the first to go. That leaves the south, midwest, and a good portion of the west with the largest shortages.

So far our best hope is the lawsuit filed against the FED by Idaho, who was joined by many other states.
