It is not only the Amish (etc.) who are exempt. The exemption will include muslim and Islam. They will get free government assistance through the "system", but will not be required to pay for it (with "Obamacare" insurance - like the rest of us). It is clear, Obama is choosing to represent the REST OF THE WORLD in order to advance his global agenda, instead of choosing to represent MOST of the AMERICAN people.
VOTE OUT CONGRESS NOW.

It is funny, but are we missing the bigger picture? Amendment 1 of the Constitution says "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof..." The merits or failures of the plan aside, this law and possibly others before it come close to "an establishment of religion". Quietly, and in a small way perhaps, this law is an inroad to a greater application of religious law trumping the Constitution. The law is presumably for the public good (This is not my position; I'm arguing against the religious exemption). There can be a public taking of land for the public good regardless of the owner's religion; parents can be denied the opportunity to harm their children by medical neglect and 'religion' is no argument; people are required to pay taxes into a system that is heavily invested in interest and speculation. But in this case, your religious 'conscience' means that your religious 'law' trumps the law of the land. I don't think this is what the writers of the first amendment had in mind. The law is NOT designed to prevent the practice of any religion. But shouldn't all people who live here be subject to the same law, no matter their religion? It make me shudder to think of religious 'conscience' trumping our law.

Funny as hell!! But seriously, since I'm "in between" relgions I am considering becoming a Christian Scientist. I know it's crap, but a long time ago I read a book by Mary Baker Eddy, and they have a reading room down the street from me.

At the risk of being labeled - there is some substance to the idea of people having the freedom to start a religion that is based on principles not in line with current traditional medical practices, many of which are extremely harmful, known to kill people and misrepresented by the very "professionals" that we are supposed to trust. As a long term organic food eater (and gardener), a self-studied alternative medicine consumer and someone who has an ongoing disease that traditional medicine could not diagnose (I had to go to a so called "quack" to get a diagnosis that finally persuaded another doctor to do a specific blood test to find my problem). Now I am treated by an M.D. who is a Naturopathic Doctor by practice. No insurance taken.
